Well my heritage is also British or so I thought. My paternal ancestors always spoke about their heritage from England. Turns out, after some research, that they lived in Northern Ireland for a couple of hundred years. Yet they always claimed to be from England because it would be somehow shameful to admit that they were from Ireland.

My point? People bring their crap wherever they go. The English aren’t immune. They are just more subtle than some.

And then there is the other side of the family with the Scots and the Brits and their centuries of discord.

So.. in an interesting turn of events the MPP for Scarborough Southwest crossed the floor and joined the Federal Liberal Party to run as their candidate.

As a Scarborough Southwest Resident, I personally won't vote for her. If she was not in this for herself, she would have ran for the Federal NDP normination in the riding not the Liberals..

I wish her all the best but she's a turncoat and I would not be disappointed if she lost miserably.

I'd argue provincial and federal parties are different. C.f. Bob Rae.

Unfortunately, the NDP does not have strong candidates anymore. Now they have Billy-Bob no name running in Scarborough Southwest that does not appeal to the riding.

Think Begum's switch to LPC is interesting but speaks mostly to the inability of the NDP, at either provincial or federal levels, to find an overarching purpose and goal to work towards. They really feel rudderless at the moment and I can't blame someone from leaving that tent.

Either the LPC is still a place for more left-leaning politicians to have a voice or Begum is willing to change her views to suit whatever party they're with.

I'd say the federal NDP is finished until at least PM Carney calls it quits in the mid to late 2030s. He's only sixty years old. Provincially, the NDP as opposition is basically ensuring Doug Ford a fourth, fifth or even sixth mandate.

I would consider attempting to run again but I cannot be bothered with the bureaucracy within the NDP leadership. I considered contesting the candidacy provincially in 2007 but I was advised against it as the Riding Executive had a candidate in mind.

That Candidate was Jay Sarkar who came in third.

I wanted to win, the riding executive wanted a token candidate who they believed would appeal to a segment of the riding who could not vote.

Technically, part of my family is Irish. That side spent several generations in Courtmatrix. But as with all things it's complicated, as they were Irish Palatinates. So, they fled Germany (and the frequent attacks by France) to somewhere safer. They often married within their own culture, kept a lot of their traditions and didn't really integrate much in those early generations (there are a few marriages between Kellys and the like later on). The disdain of France was still being held onto by my grandmother however, generations removed from those ancestors who fled.

So, am I Irish or German on that side? I don't really know.

Does it really matter because nations are made up ways for the rich and powerful to lord over others? No, not really.

This reminds me of the experience that immigrant groups like the Koreans and Chinese face in Japan, from around 1910 and onwards. There's always been historic population and cultural migration from the Asian mainland in the earlier stages of national formations, but this refers for moreso to the times of Imperial Japan following the Meiji Restoration. Where immigrants faced issues such as resentment, social exclusion, and structural barriers in employment. Even with the common practice of adopting Japanese names to assimilate and blend into the native population more, there remains a sense of otherism.

The Federal government is going to be announcing its new auto strategy tomorrow:

The federal government is expected to announce its national automotive strategy on Thursday that includes scrapping Canada's electric vehicle mandate and replacing it with a new system of fuel efficiency standards and credits, CBC News has learned.

The change would be similar to one made by the European Union last year, when it unveiled a proposal to scrap its sales targets in favour of fuel efficiency standards.

Under the old EV mandate manufacturers could earn and trade credits for producing electric vehicles. A source also confirms that the system replacing the EV mandate will allow manufacturers to earn credits by producing electric vehicles, and that there will be a way to carry over credits earned under the old system to the new one.

Sources tell CBC News some sort of incentive program for consumers buying EVs will be returning.

The government is expected to offer incentives of up to $5,000 for an EV worth $50,000 or less, Radio-Canada has learned.

Money will also be announced to build more charging stations for EVs across Canada, a source said.

It angers me to see that Carney is looking to offer rebates of up to $5,000 on EV's worth $50,000. Why is the government funding the purchase of private vehicles. I don't own a car and never will be able to afford a car so why should my tax dollars go to EV rebates? The 50,000 Chinese EVs coming to Canada will be very affordable hence there will be no need to offer any incentives. They will sell like hotcakes.

Who will benefit the most from a $5,000 incentive? Elon Musk comes to mind first! When Trump got elected in 2024 when Elon was living at Mar-a-Lago (Ped-o-Lago) Elon jumped on Trump's anti-Canada bandwagon. I recall Musk tweeting that "Canada is not a real country" and another tweet where he addressed Justine Trudeau as "Governor Trudeau". I have no doubt that Elon is one of the people who planted the seed in Trumps tiny brain that annexing Canada would be a good idea.

I wonder how many Canadians realize that Elon Musk's Canadian maternal grandfather was part of what was called a "Technocracy" movement that envisioned a "Technate of America". Check out the map below. Does it look familiar.

A few weeks back Doug Ford stupidly called for a boycott of Chinese EVs. He should have been calling for a boycott of ALL Tesla vehicles. Tesla builds nothing in Canada and Musk has done nothing for Canada - a country that has given him so much - instead he has worked against Canada as a traitor.

The only rebate that I could accept would be for Doge Challenger EVs which are the only EVs made in Canada. We should not be incentivizing the purchase of American made EVs from Rivian, Lucid, Ford, GM and especially not Tesla!

I think the other political party recommended rebates (I think it was GST exemption) for vehicles made in Canada.
Canadians prefer to send their money to China.
