PM Mark Carney's Canada

Freeland was appointed as a special advisor by Zelenskyy, she is not Canada's special representative as she was not appointed by Canada for this role.

She is also planning to move to England in the near future where she will be the CEO of the Rhodes Trust.

She hasn't resigned her seat but has said she wouldn't be running for re-election. She should step down as MP, particularly since she is planning to leave the country.

Neither Freeland's office nor the Conflict of Interest Commissioner have commented yet.

Why? If there's no proven conflict of interest (and so far there doesn't appear to be), and her appointment doesn't impact her ability to function as an MP there should be no need to resign. She finishes her term and moves on. The only people upset by this as those carrying water for Putin, who last I checked, was our adversary.

She was onboarded by a foreign government to work as a special advisor to their president. THAT IS a conflict of interest.

To use an example, when I applied to the Canadian Forces I was told by the recruiter that my application would likely not be approved due to have three citizenships. They were concerned that during a time of war, I would need to choose a side.

Right now, Chrystia Freeland is an MP in the Canadian House of Commons. She cannot play both sides and work for governments of both countries at the same time.

I think she should step down because she is moving to England.

She was onboarded in the exact same capacity as the Canadian government has placed her in that relationship: to give economic advice to Ukraine. It's one of several public and private appointments she holds. Unless the Ethics Commissioner says it's a conflict, I don't buy random internet opinion from motivated partisans.

Either you're misremembering the discussion or the recruiter was ignorant. We routinely have people with multiple citizenships serve. Depending on what those citizenships are can very much impact the security clearance process. That wouldn't precluded service entirely. It could preclude certain occupations and certain positions. Right now we even take in Permanent Residents. And we've occasionally recruited foreigners directly with special skill sets. We've had Brits and Aussies move straight to Cold Lake and become flight instructors while waiting for their citizenship.

When is she moving?
Her appointment with the Rhodes Trust starts July 1, and she is planning to relocate there, but I didn’t see a specific date for a move. I don’t think an MP can represent their constituents properly whilst living in another country (and there may be regulation around that). I didn’t say she should resign today, but I would hope and expect that is her plan in the coming few months.

Michelle Rempel Garner lived in Oklahoma during the pandemic for at least some time. I presume she's moved back

Garner did say that was for a personal family matter; it wasn't a permanent or long-term relocation (which Freeland's appears to be) and presumably she maintained Canadian residency. MPs are required to have Canadian residency in order to be an MP, so relocating to another country for work purposes appears to be establishing residence outside of Canada. The devil is in the details, I guess.

If she moves and doesn't resign, I'll agree with you.

But the other demand to resign wasn't about her moving.
