Trump may well reverse the regulatory demands for EVs and put the temporary death to Canada’s new battery plants.

All the EV building stuff is out of Trump's control. It's part of the Inflation Reduction Act authorized and funded by Congress. Unless that bill is amended or repealed. And in that case, our tax breaks and production subsidies are directly tied to the IRA, so they would expire automatically. That doesn't mean a death to the battery plants though. It's the way the industry is heading. It's probably a slowdown at worst.

That's because so much Team Trudeau came from Team McGuinty and Team Wynne. It's the same clueless lot.

I would not be surprised to wake up and find the Trump administration drafting more cohesive policy than us, even if it's all garbage. Can't see Prime Minister Poilievre doing real policy either, so I've given up hope for actual policymaking from any upper level of government until 2030 at least.

In case you had some lingering doubt that the Trudeau government is a serious administration, doubt no more. Chrystia Freeland says that the HST rebate is attacking the "vibecession."

I don't even understand the politics of this. I don't think most people will notice. And for those that do, most won't credit the government. This isn't winning them votes. Instead of that, they should have sent out $100 cheques now and called it a Christmas bonus. And then $200 before the election.

I don't agree with any of this vote buying. But even the politics of it is so incompetent.

It's that we have these ridiculous, of touch corporate ghouls in charge who have no idea what real people actually want out of government. The problem for Freeland and the Liberals is that the term had some use in the US, where the economy is truly hot and real incomes are rising for most people, but people seem to think the economy is bad. The main indicator cited for this is that when people are asked about their personal financial situation, most people say it's good and getting better. But ask them about the economy as a whole, and most people say it's bad. They just have a vibe that things aren't good out there.

In Canada, real incomes are not rising for most people, so the view that the economy isn't great is not a vibe, it's reality.

What do I need another $250 rebate for? If I was on the brink of starving or freezing it might extend my miserable life another few days before i’m just as screwed as I was. Instead Trudeau should keep the money and invest more in a national housing strategy.

Gawd, I’m just so annoyed with Trudeau. He came in with such promise in 2015 with commitments to balance the books by 2019 and finally amend the FPTP electoral system. Instead we’re stuck with record deficits and a government that last won 32% of the national vote. Most of all I just wanted governance without nonsense.

Re: Carbon Tax - that is in fact how it is supposed to work. You're incentivized to reduce your carbon footprint, so the less carbon you emit, the more you'll get back.
