"Places to Grow" wins a prize.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, but:

Ontario's Growth Plan Makes an Impression in the U.S.

ReNew Canada

Washington, D.C. December 19, 2006. The American Planning Association (APA) has selected the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe – the area surrounding Toronto – as one of two recipients of APA's 2007 Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan. This is the first time a Canadian region has won this award. The award, named in honor American planner Daniel Burnham, who developed the 1909 Burnham Plan for the City of Chicago, is one of APA’s National Planning Excellence, Achievement and Leadership Awards.

“The Greater Golden Horseshoe plan puts Ontario on the map as an international leader in sustainable community development,†said Toronto Mayor David Miller. “As the region grows, the need to control sprawl will become increasingly important.

" Places to Grow is focused on managing growth and curbing sprawl, while developing a prosperous region. David Caplan, who has said that long-term planning creates “certainty and stability,†led the five-year effort to develop the plan. As the provincial government minister responsible for the initiative, he will accept the award at APA's National Planning Conference on April 17, 2007 in Philadelphia.
