Official UT World Cup 2006 Thread

whereas the French have no real French part of the city.
Although they've declared King West between John and Peter as theirs.

I rode my bike up to St. Clair last night and walked around for about an hour. Good vibe, tonnes of people and zero problems or incidents as far as I could see. Toronto at its finest.

I hated seeing him do that in the final but if you are going to hit someone in soccer make it count and DAMN did he ever nail him. That lippy $#&%er might think twice before opening his trap next time. Materrazi is a dirty player (albeit agood one) at the best of times. Next time knock him on the chin.

ZiZou, you are still number one in my books.

Best match in ages. Glad ot see ref put the whistle down and that he also didn't fall for dives. Players saw that early and put the acting clinic on hold. Wide open running game with spot on passes. Could not have asked for a better final. I will even go so far as to say that though I am not a fan if Italian ball they played well. Always has to be a winner and a loser right.

Finally, isn't it funny how the tolerance of the Portuguese fans was so small in TO but with the Italian crowd it is much more accepted. Sure they are loud when they win but not overly obnoxious. Dufferin and Dundas - You payin attention? Can't wait four more years for the next on. It has been a blast.

ZiZou is now my favorite player.

I'd have to think as a pro football player near the end of his career that Zidane has heard much worse than his sister being called a prostitute.

If that's all it took for him to ruin his team's chances at a World Cup and tarnish his image, it's pretty sad.

Winning would've been the best revenge.

^ Apparently, the Italian strategy involved taunting Zidane from the very beginning of the game, pulling his shirt, tripping him unnecessarily, bumping into him purposely and other actions made to bring him to the boiling point. I guess after 115 minutes of that, a guy has to snap and knock the shit out of the other guy.

We all already knew that the Italians were dirty players but hey... they're the ones holding the cup.

^ that is ridiculous, and frankly, not a terribly mature comment. Every team's strategy is to mark the other team's best player with tight defense of continual contact and distractions. In the NBA everytime Shaq steps out on the floor the hack-a-shack is on. But even the brainy and mature (sarcasm) Shaq has never snapped and head-butted an opponent in front of several billion people. He is a fantastic player but you can't really exuse it. (as Chirac apprently did when he remarked that he didnt see it). Its too bad that Zidane's repution is marked this way. It is also too bad that it has become the main talking point of the whole tournament when the actual impact on the game was not really that significant. Trezueget would have been tipped to take a penalty shot and if he was fated to miss and the Italians to hit 5 for 5 then what difference?

It was stupid of Zidane to let himself get suckered into a red card by that dirty dog... but I hope he doesn't lose his Golden Ball. That street thug Materasshole did deserve a kick in the ass and I'm glad that he has also been shamed somewhat by all this.

The best part of all of this, is that it is totally overshadowing the victory by Italy. Everyone will forever remember Zidanes head butt, everything else is secondary and I love it!
