At present rates the total number of people infected with covid-19 will double by about the end of March in Canada and the US.

BREAKING: Ontario reports nearly 3,000 new cases of COVID-19 over last 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health says that there were 2,923 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus confirmed on Tuesday, pushing the rolling seven-day average up to 2,309.
A record 998 new cases were reported in Toronto on Wednesday while Peel Region reported 441, York Region reported 408, Durham Region reported 158 and Halton Region reported 114.

Perhaps your experience is different; but for me, it seems the NYT gives your first article free, if you have no current cookies from the site.
If you want to read a second article, you can bookmark it, and clean your cookies/re-start your browser (assuming you have it set to clean cookies out on closure) and then read the subsequent article.
Alternatively, if you have more than one browser you can open a second browser and access the article.
I usually play around a bit but couldn't be bothered this morning, so I just looked for another article

The hospitalization one is the one that is particularly noteworthy, in a negative way.
That's a one day spike of over 36%.
That is most certainly not sustainable, even in the medium term, never mind the longer one.
A week of that will have multiple hospitals straining to their limits.

According to the currently ongoing broadcast by Ministers Leblanc Bill Blair the government will be requiring covid testing 3 days prior to arrival.
