Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (nCoV-2019)

Once this goes parabolic (Alberta just stopped contact tracing because there are too many cases), the next thing Canada will screw up is the distribution of vaccines.

It will be some wishy-washy prioritization program with delayed roll-out of months securing doses. Within groupings it will be first-come-first-serve wishy-washy with localized shortages etc. The government will declare how hard it is and what a great job they are doing while in reality third-world countries operating on a shoe-string will (assuming they even get any vaccine) operate more effective strategies based on simple logistical order such as birth date or birth year.

It's already happened. The new vaccine needs to be kept super cold making distribution a challenge.

Also, there are 7.6 Billion people on this planet. Nobody will have that much vaccine for at least a year so rationing will be required.

Despite what agreements are in place no one nation will get all their vaccine supply at once. So yes Trudeau will be telling people it will be scarce at first.

Bad news: once the vaccines become widely available, the world's population would be 7.85 billion.

It will go higher yet - don't expect serious drops until we implement serious control measures (other than the for show BS right now). Can we get Daniel Dale back?

I agree. With cases hitting records every day I am starting to wonder how Ford thinks he can reopen everything. Remember how we had to get number under 200 cases before they could go to Stage 2 I think it was?

They wanted low numbers before they could start to reopen but when cases skyrocket to 6 times the number required to reopen they still want to stay open.

If they wanted to hit 200 or less cases a few months ago to enter Stage 2 why are we not back at Stage 1!

Yup. Christmas is right around the corner, we are going to see some pretty sickening numbers in the months to come. 😟 Welcome to Florida!

Because there was never a real plan, they're making it up as they go along. It's painfully obvious.

Either lock everything down or open it all up. Half measures make no sense.

It seems most people are worried about cases but do like the ability to mostly function as a society. It's a balancing act that can either last or will come crashing down badly.

Covid vaccine: First vaccine offers 90% protection

Nov 9, 2020

The first coronavirus vaccine can prevent more than 90% of people from getting Covid-19, a preliminary analysis shows.

The developers - Pfizer and BioNTech - described it as a "great day for science and humanity".

Their vaccine has been tested on 43,500 people in six countries and no safety concerns have been raised.

The companies plan to apply for emergency approval to use the vaccine by the end of the month.

A vaccine - alongside better treatments - is seen as the best way of getting out of the restrictions that have been imposed on all our lives.

There are around a dozen in the final stages of testing, but this is the first to show any results.

It uses a completely experimental approach - that involves injecting part of the virus's genetic code - in order to train the immune system.

Two doses, three weeks apart, are needed. The trials - in US, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and Turkey - show 90% protection is achieved seven days after the second dose.

Pfizer believes it will be able to supply 50 million doses by the end of this year, and around 1.3 billion by the end of 2021.

However, there are logistical challenges as the vaccine has to be kept in ultra-cold storage at below minus 80C.

There are also questions about how long immunity lasts.
