Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (nCoV-2019)

Don't forget about the folks in Point Roberts, WA. They are separated from the rest of the United States by Boundary Bay and Point Roberts' only land connection is through Delta, BC.
Trump is "the Great Negotiator". We should try making a swap of some sorts.
  1. Canada gets Point Roberts (near Vancouver) - 1300 people and 1265 hectares. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Roberts,_Washington
  2. Canada gets NW Angle (Lake of Woods) - 150 people and 33,000 hectares. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Angle
  3. USA gets Cockburn Island in the North Channel of Lake Huron - 0 people and 17,000 hectares. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockburn_Island_(Ontario)
  4. USA gets Campobello Island (Maine-NB border) - 900 people and 4,000 hectares. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campobello_Island
There are a couple of areas along the Quebec-Vermont border than might be thrown in if needed.

Each person who comes into Canada (Canadian, American, Earthling, etc.) should get a COVID-19 test, along with contact information. They should self-isolate until they get the results. If positive, they'll should be isolated. Another test to confirm positive or negative should be done after 14 days.

Dozens of U.S. Marines in Japan's Okinawa get coronavirus

Saturday, July 11, 2020

Dozens of U.S. Marines at two bases on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa have been infected with the coronavirus in what is feared to be a massive outbreak, Okinawa's governor said Saturday, demanding an adequate explanation from the U.S. military.

Gov. Denny Tamaki said he could say only that a "few dozen" cases had been found recently because the U.S. military asked that the exact figure not be released. The outbreaks occurred at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, which is at the centre of a relocation dispute, and Camp Hansen, Tamaki said.

Local media, citing unnamed sources, said about 60 people had been infected.

"Okinawans are shocked by what we were told (by the U.S. military)," Tamaki told a news conference. "We now have strong doubts that the U.S. military has taken adequate disease prevention measures."

Tamaki demanded transparency in the latest development and said he planned to request talks between the U.S. military and Okinawan officials. He said Okinawan officials also asked the Japanese government to demand that the U.S. provide details including the number of cases, seal off Futenma and Camp Hansen, and step up preventive measures on base.

I have way more faith in sports organizations taking the necessary precautions compared to governments or the public.

The MLS is Back tournament is going well so far, only two teams sent home, both of which arrived in Orlando with positive cases on their team and had zero interaction with any other team.

Not going so well today. Looks like the MLS bubble has burst, players have tested positive for Covid. Bad idea playing any sport in the world's epicenter of rising covid-19 cases. No "bubble" is going to stop this virus.

Well there are reports he floated the idea of selling Puerto Rico, maybe we could swap them something for it.

I don't really see any need to trade territory.

I think we should just agree to take something they want to get rid of............Detroit maybe? LOL

No project too big for a Mike Holmes TV show.

****

Not to detract from the central theme of the thread.

But I've often thought Canada should make an offer to the U.S. and the current inhabitants of 1 and 2 above.

We'll offer to buy everything at fair market value (5-year high) plus a 20% premium.

We'll pay Washington State a one-time fee equal to all taxes it collects there for 10 years. (Minnesota in the case of the Angle)

Same to the U.S. Feds.

I don't think there are any resource royalties, but if it adversely impacts American fishing rights, we will offer to buy-out those rights at 15 years profit in cash or Net Present Asset Value, the greater of the two.

Any American who wishes to stay may, and will be conferred Canadian Citizenship or permanent resident status if they choose.

Any American who wishes to leave will have their moving costs reimbursed to a maximum of $50,000CAD

Whether an American who stays keeps their U.S. citizenship is between them and their government.

Back on track; phase 3 openings will be announced tomorrow.

Not yet clear on the exact start date.

Apparently it will be regional (so not everywhere), not clear if Toronto is in/out yet.

Richard Southern is reporting that Bars will be allowed to open........I tend to think this unwise at this point.

Trump mused about buying Greenland -- that lasted about a day.

There was some rumblings from the locals of Angle Twp. of seceding a few years back because of changes Ontario made to non-resident fishing rules but it settled down. In the N/W Angle case it would involve an Indian Reserve (as still called down there) and in both cases it would involve international waters, so the feds would be deeply involved. In both cases, the inconvenience is theirs; in the case of Campobello Island, the inconvenience is ours.

The issue of national enclaves/exclaves is interesting. We have nothing on Netherlands/Belgium and India/Pakistan, India/Bangladesh.

All three cases (1 TFC, 1 DCU, 1 SKC) from last night turned out to be false positives, so once again this has been overstated.

Don't get me wrong, I am annoyed I woke up this morning only for the game to be postponed too, but that sure beats the teams playing with an infected player. So far, MLS protocols are being followed, players and staff are being regularly tested, and game was postponed as per procedure. Bubble has not yet failed.
