Niagara Falls Hilton Phase II (53s, 172m, Stanford Downey Architects)

yes, dont get me wrong... I am not a reactionary brutalism hater at all. Just was agreeing with 42's comment about how it looked up close, when you are actually walking around it. Although, this portion of the plaza beside the parking lot looks like it must have been renovated fairly recently and looks quite nice:

I was in NF last week. The skylon is in need of some major repairs inside and out glad to see they have started with the roof.

Tallest eye sore in NF

hey, great pics! I really should scrounge up the money and go up the Skylon. I had noticed they were putting a new copper roof on the Skylon too. Surely it will just turn green again within a year.

here's some pics I took this afternoon, including a huge pano of the skyline...

its actually Ukrainian... I looked it up online. For some reason I had thought it was Greek. Thinking of joining? Wasnt that a Seinfeld episode?

This building looks like they painted the concrete core and forgot to add steel.

the construction is steel reinforced concrete which is then covered by an olive coloured insulation and then the precast cladding.

Meh. It just LOOKS like they forgot steel. You can tell that's cladding, but it looks like they just painted the concrete anyway.

oh, I know... i hate that tacky thing. its ruined so many of my pics of the back side of the Embassy Suites. I guess when you are in any city like NF, Atlantic City, Las Vegas that tacky is just expected.

um no... to be precise it was taken from the fire escape on the back of the Lundy's Lane Museum. I had been living in an apartment in the Fallsview neighbourhood until mid August, but now I'm in a house in burbs.

Man, the Hilton is a disappointment. Really, I'll go out on a limb here and say NF hotels of this size should go Vegas or Shenzhen, rather than this bland, cleap, low po-mo (lo-po). Niagara Falls tourist area is the one place in the Golden Horseshoe where this could fit. Heck, the Fallsview Casino doesn't do such a bad job of this, which is why I don't hate it.
