Mississauga City Centre Placemaking concept plan by PPS

Apparently their idea of placemaking is having a family skate on New Years Eve in front of city hall between 5pm and 9pm.
I thought the majority of people moving into the City Centre are young, single people? How is Mississauga ever going to have a downtown when all they do is focus on families?

I think focusing on family's is fine. There are very few skating events that are restricted to singles. Skating is something that's family friendly, but it's also something that everyone can enjoy.

Haven't they always had that New Year's Eve skate followed the next day by the mayor's levee?

Yes quite a while now. But how has that helped to attract young single adults to the City Centre? It's time to change things.
They need to do things for young adults around here.

So Mississauga will have no official New Years Eve festivities past 9pm? Is that to give the population time to drive into Toronto? Bizzzzzzarre. (Hmm - spellcheck does not agree with that one.)

After months of public consultation, the City of Mississauga is unveiling its vision for the revitalization of public spaces in and around downtown Mississauga, with particular focus on new parks and public spaces in the City Centre.

They'd better be careful with the planned parks or they could end up reinforcing the "tower in the park" image.
