Mayor John Tory's Toronto

Adding to AoD, right now Col. Flagg, as the Fords, are taking any opportunity to prove they still exist and are relevant. It's just like Robbie constantly bringing up Garbage outsourcing west of Yonge, it's mostly a failure so far but he clings to it like Woodbine Live!

Right now The Fords are as effectual as a fart in a wind storm.

At least the windstorm disperses the smell. An apt metaphor for Tory clearing out the stentch.

AoD

Yup, basically dealing with it would cost more than what it would take in. As to the issue itself - as if it just manifested itself during Tory's tenure. What has his ex-worship done about it (other than tying up the cops with his, err, extracurricular activities)

Same as with pretty much everything under Ford's tenure: essentially nothing. A lot of talk at the beginning, maybe a symbolic gesture, ultimately nothing.

This is where retail politics falls down. Sure, it looks good to be looking out for the regular people, returning the phone calls that should have gone to 311 in the first place. But nothing really gets done that way. No one has the time to chase after all the little issues. Pandering to voters by resisting change and feigning outrage is a good way to get away with doing nothing about anything.

Remember this little 'pilot project'?

Didn't I read somewhere that collecting on that $20 million in tickets would cost something like $23 million?

That's the problem when the penalties for violating the law is a paltry 30 bucks. First of all, there should be a frigging zero added to that. Secondly, the ticket should include a wheel clamp, which doesn't get removed until you pay the fine (and if you don't pay up within a short period of time, car is towed at an even greater expense to you).

Illegal parking issue solved.

People park illegally willy nilly for the same reason nobody has there dog on a leash any more (notice how prevalent that one has become? ) ...getting away with it is so easy and the penalty if you do manage to get caught is so minor as to not act as much of a deterrent. Car and dog owners have somehow cultivated an attitude of entitlement that needs to be countered by bashing them over the head.

I hadn't really noticed the issue with dog owners since there seems to be a proliferation of off-leash areas but what I see with a lot of drivers is a sense that they're being persecuted for, uh, not following the rules. Like it's so unfair that you're expected to move your car.

I would like to remind everyone that Mr. Tory is at the Dome tonight and politicians make us lose. Right now, we are winning.
