IDK about other parks, but May 1st is the cutoff for leash free dogs in my local park.

Here’s the bylaw, https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/municode/1184_608.pdf

But if you’re not sure if you should leash up your dog, here‘s a good guide to follow.

Dog owners can be so overconfident about their pooch and get laissez faire about leashing - until tragedy or near tragedy happens. My neighbour was one of those - and their dog almost got ran over as a result (thanks to my pooch being the distraction). She almost turned blue at that moment.

It's an issue in my rural neighbourhood. Some folks walk their dogs off leash in defiance of the local bylaw; most are very well trained and mannered but a couple are lumbering galoofs and intimidate our two which add up to about 24lb. Encounters between on-and-off leash dogs are not equitable if things don't go well. It takes an astonishingly well trained dog to not be tempted by the ultimate temptation(squirrel, etc.). We lost one to a car and the wife lost another as a child.

Now, let's talk about those who don't pick up after them.
