Manley wants to hand power over to US

So what you are saying is... if there was an open border canada would be depopulated as everyone moved south.... Sorry, don't believe that for a second... why does not everyone from the northern states move south? What are you going to do if the United States unilaterally made it easier for Canadians to immigrate? Build a wall to keep people in?

WELL, not every single person. but the brain drain that canada currently has will skyrocket.

the only way to sustain 'nation of canada' would be to make canada's gdp/cap higher than that of the states. this is possible since canada, a small nation is bordered by a huge nation and is in similar situation to small eu nations to bigger ones (luxemburg vs. germany or france). but the way to do that is to get rid of all social programs such as welfare healthcare etc. and create a free marker paradise which will compete with u.s. low tax econ and added to that is the huge number of tourist from the south will make canada's gdp/cap over the states. of course i don't see that happening, as canadians mostly lean to the left.

I am not sure what you mean by conservative libertarian. the whole notion of being libertarian aka classic liberal, is exact opposite of 'conservatism'. it's like saying you are a free minded religious fanatic.

About building trade with other countries.... and forgetting about the United States.....

That is also an old idea. Pierre E Trudea had a similar idea... In fact he attempted to do just that, but all the countries that he approached -- really were not all that interested. He came back to Canada (in failure) and ended up negotiating with Nixon.

Cacruden, you suffer from George Bush syndrome... ie. everything is black or white. Believe or not, there are options other than a) building a wall around Canada and b) joining America.

Unimaginative, nice rant!

"I am not sure what you mean by conservative libertarian. the whole notion of being libertarian aka classic liberal, is exact opposite of 'conservatism'. it's like saying you are a free minded religious fanatic."

I am not religious at all. To sum it up -- I would prefer the government "get out of my bedroom", "get out of my personal life", and "get out of my pocket".

Think of the political spectrum (also simplified) as two dimensional (as opposed to unidimensional) -- left (Liberal), Right (Conservative), South (Authoritarian), North (Libertarian). Most here tend (that I can figure out would tend towards - Liberal/Authoritarian) -- I "tend" towards Libertarian/Conservative -- Bush tends towards Conservative/Authoritarian.

We have two levels of government -- the federal should be responsible for defense, monetary policy, foreign affairs, trade, etc. There should be free movement of labour and trade across the provinces.

All other responsibilities should be provincial (it is all the same taxpayer -- province is closer to the local people). People are all equal, but people from different regions have different priorities.

You have your political spectrum messed up.... you are thinking that social-conservatives (neocon) are conservatives. The political spectrum is not just left and right, it has more dimensions to it. I grabbed a small description (from a faq) that gives a good synopsis.

"2. Are libertarians liberal or conservative?

You have a better choice than just left or right. The libertarian way gives you more choices, in politics, in business, your personal life, in every way. Libertarians advocate a high degree of both personal and economic liberty. Today's liberals like personal liberty but want government to control your economic affairs. Conservatives reverse that, advocating more economic freedom but wanting to clamp down on your private life.

Libertarian positions on the issues are not "left" or "right" or a
combination of the two. Libertarians believe that, on every issue, you have the right to decide for yourself what's best for you and to act on that belief so long as you respect the right of other people to do the same and deal with them peacefully and honestly.

Today's liberals and conservatives have rejected America's heritage of liberty and personal responsibility. They want to put us all in their straitjacket. Americans built a great country without shackles. It's time to take them off again. Break free of the useless left right spectrum. Think freedom on all issues. Think libertarian. [2]"

From what you posted before, I misunderstood you as having republican/current conservative party tendencies!

"left (Liberal), Right (Conservative)"- this is wrong. left and right comes from left wing and right wing economy where left wing are classical economists (aka conservatives) opposed to that euro economist what was his name... keynes? Classic liberals don't fall in left. the different between these two models are little. therefore using left and right here is wrong so is the term conservative.

ok i think i may sound confusing!

think of that model as having 3 dimension. 1st axis = social liberty which i think all canadians except harper- agree that should be as high as possible. 2nd axis- socialist vs. liberal economy which most canadians are somewhat lean to the left. and then we have the 3rd axis classical vs. keynesian economy (left vs. right) which to me isn't that much of an issue in canada.

From the website you posted: "Today, the biggest polluter of all -- the U.S. military -- gets away with murder -- literally. "

Actually, "left" and "right" labels come from the National Assembly during the French Revolution. Those in favour of conserving the monarchy sat generally in the area on the speaker's right-hand side, and those in favour of the republic sat on the left.

Well, I am not too worried about all these people on the left thinking I am wrong.... because w'all know that people on the left are evil.... they sit on the left of god (where lucifer was) while Jesus sat on the right side.

OK, just trying to live up to all those that thought I might be "that type" of conservative :lol
