Toronto Love Park | 3m | 1s | City of Toronto | CCxA

Can't wait for @Northern Light's review of the finished product. Are there any encouraging signs or red flags so far?

It's Cormier, so I would be both surprised and disappointed if the review weren't pretty glowing.

I can say that I like the way the trees were planted, the indications are they planted them at the appropriate level with the grade of the soil, not right on top of the mounds (where all the water drains away from), nor at the bottom where it pools. The soil did not appear compacted.

So we're looking good so far.

From Waterfront TO (after it was announced we are losing the Natrel Rink at Harbourfront):
"Serious consideration was given about a skating rink in the pond during our consultations with the Stakeholder Advisory Committee for Love Park. However, it was determined that it would not be feasible to maintain a rink in the pond without negatively impacting the overall functionality of the park and the pond."

I also cannot find any information about skating on waterfront Toronto's page on love park.

Unfortunately, it appears the skating idea was nixed, see this post and mine above it.

Will the pond be drained during winter? Would make for a contemplative and still-picturesque setting to have it freeze over in winter.

As for skating, I think that the Harborfront Centre sort of fulfills that demand?

It would have but it was recently announced the rink is permanently closed.

Even if it were still open, having another rink would be beneficial. Evenings and weekends on the city's nicer rinks are always really busy on evening and weekends. Busy to the point to make me only we want to skate at off-peak times.

Not fully drained - it will still have water in it in winter. As to Harbourfront Centre - the rink is getting torn out as we speak.

Had a look at the park today and it looks like a July opening. Lot of concrete sidewalk still has to be pour, mechanical still has to be install as well testing. Stock pile of benches waiting to be install. Dog park looks good

Work still taking place around the island
