Long Closing

I am about to sell my house, but my new place will not be ready until Fall. Does anybody know how common it is for a seller to ask for a long (6 month) closing period? Is this something that can be hashed out when an offer is made?

I bought a place with a six month closing. I was in no rush, seller didn't really want to sell so was in no hurry (spouse was transferred so they had to sell). I offered six months, they accepted. Worked out for everyone concerned. I don't know how common that is though.

Interesting... if the buyer wanted to own the house within 3 months, I could do that and then rent it back for another 3 months..
