Libeskind's Ascent tower opens in Cincinnati

Those pink towers are eerily reminiscent of that awful block at Hurontario and Burnhamthorpe.

The existing PoMo towers and bridge generate an air of failed Disney in that scene.

You mean, like the bridge could just as well have been disassembled and reerected here, a la London Bridge at Lake Havasu...

The London Bridge that they moved to Lake Havasu City really wasn't all that historic. It's engineering wasn't particularly special, it wasn't really that old, and it had replaced the London Bridge that was genuinely historic.

Though even so, it remained the oldest extant crossing of the Thames within London...

It is an elegant structure though, just not up to handling all the London traffic. I used to cross it when I went up to London with my Mother on days off from school in the '60s, an army of bowler-hatted gents streaming out of London Bridge Station and heading over the bridge to the City all around us. The joke at the time was that the Yanks bought because they thought they were getting Tower Bridge.

Just to make sure... that bridge is most assuredly not PoMo. It's one of the most historic bridges in the world.

I wasn't suggesting the bridge was PoMo, but stated "PoMo towers."

That being said, the glassy towers, the imported bridge, the faux river boat, the groomed but desolate shoreline - give the impression of something gone wrong.

Yup, I was thinking of the Lake Havasu bridge that adma mentioned earlier.

My boo-boo.
