There are relatively new towers on Leslie just north of Eglinton. They are red brick with a cream 'wood' trim - very Victorian looking.

To me, these are great looking buildings, and I wish more of this style was built downtown, it has a classic feel.

To most, it seems, these are not great buildings and are not something people would like to see more of.

I accepted that argument over on SSC a while ago, but driving by them today made me think of the whole thing again and I still don't understand what's so bad about them?

Anyone?

The thing that also bothers me is the sign on Leslie indicating that you're entering Don Mills, our first planned suburb. And next to this sign are these towers that scream anything but modernism. Shame.

Well, I suppose you guys almost began to answer my question, so thanks for that!

But, seriously, does anyone have a genuine and sensible answer?

thanks.

Inn On The Park. Peter Dickinson. Demolished. Next contestant, please.

Partly wrong. The Inn was demolished later, for a Toyota dealership.

The towers are criticized for their poor architecture, planning, and hopelessly poor integration within the larger lot. For example, take the east side of Leslie beside the complex. The view from the road is awful; the hill and complex box the road in, destroying any sense of integration with nature or the west side of the street, but at the same point, they leave no sense of humanity with the lack of street level windows/parking lots/fountains/anything!. Another tragedy is that octagonal tower, sitting in complete disuse. It would be a perfect structure to convert into new condos, but presently it looks like a loner.

Thanks Newuser....

So that's not to say that if integrated better, in a more urban landscape, these could work?
