Historic photos from Toronto on this day

Thanks Anna and DSC for the info on the bridge, that makes a lot of sense. In particular the photo with the old and new bridge puts it all in perspective. A quick look on Google Street view confirms that the railing along the ravine looks exactly like the old bridge railing. Some re-use from 85 years ago!

April 22: Here's a photo from 92 years ago in Leslieville, a fete in the Queen Street Presbyterian Church in 1918:

And then today in 1923, 87 years ago today, there are men working on the streetcar tracks at Dundas and McCaul West, with the location of the future AGO on the left, and most of the houses that still stand today on the right:

I tried my photo manipulation skills with this photo to blend today and 87 years ago:

That's a great blend! BTW that picture from 1923 says May.

Thanks, and oops, you're right about the month!

April 23: When I first saw the following two photos, from today 78 years ago in 1932, I was amazed at how little traffic there was, then realized that knowing what day of the week would make a difference. I couple of extra lines of PHP in my web page, and now I know this was a Saturday, so at least a bit more reasonable.

Here's two 'subway' shots from along Royce Avenue, which is now Dupont:

This view hasn't changed much at all. Some trees now, and the Canadian General Electric Co. sign is gone.

You can see the location on the map, as well as the link to the Toronto Archive record for these pictures here and here

Everyone: If this topic is continuously updated it can become a 365-day history of Toronto from an infrastructure standpoint-like the "subway" rail line underpass posted above today (4/23) which I found quite interesting.
It is just another reason why the UT City Photos section is one of my favorite parts of this website and makes me glad to be a member here at UT! LI MIKE

Sorry to post this here but I am brand new to this site. I am doing Now and Then photos for Scarborough and I need a little help with 1 photo. I am looking to find out where this small Apt. building is , any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brewster, welcome! I've been amazed at how much people in this forum know and share, so I'm sure someone will be able to help! You might have more luck, though, in the "Miscellany Toronto: Then & Now" thread, and I find people are more likley to respond if you can include the image right in the thread, rather than just a link.

Mike, I currently have 133 days of the year covered (out of 365) covering 50 different years, from 1837 (which is a sketch, not a photo) through to 2007 (video of the destruction of the Bata Headquarters). I'm also always interested to see what other's add to the thread. If you want to see all the photos, on a map of Toronto, you can check it out here

Thank you Seemsartless---I have the thumbnail figured out but a full picture is beyond me at the moment.

April 24: Just one photo today, from 1935, a Wednesday, 75 years ago. Coach washing in the Davenport TTC Garage on Hillcrest:

This photo is from the City of Toronto Archives.

I have to admit that I don't know much about the TTC buildings in that area... is this the Wychwood Barns (from http://www.hypercube.rannieturingan.com/panorama/img_0636/ ):
