Heathrow...'Plot to blow up planes' foiled

"How long does one have to wait for checked luggage to appear at Heathrow? Does anyone here know? It will be my usual 6:15 a.m. arrival on AC865."

I've never had issues. If you carry a British passport and speed past all your fellow travellers through immigration, you'll probably have a further 10 minute wait at the carousel. Turn left after passport control and use the escalator, that's where the baggage from AC flights usually turns up. Of course, this is all variable on what gate your flight uses and the lineup at immigration.

The cops finally released a list of suspects that were arrested yesterday. Is this what passes for wide strata of the British society?

Not too different from our own bunch of homegrown "terrorists" currently vacationing in beautiful Brampton. I wonder if the British government also sold them all of their supplies...

With what's going on in the Middle East these days, it's only going to get easier to recruit people to do this sort of thing. This is what that slow-witted president his British lapdog don't understand.

Wonderboy, their court appearances are in Brampton. You will be surely pleased to know that they are spending most of their time at the lovely all-inclusive Maplehurst prison, in Milton. This is partly because there is no detention centre in Peel (which in my opinion is stupid, and costs the Peel Regional Police a small fortune in transporting prisoners to and from Milton everyday).

A total ban on all liquids/pastes etc would seem a bit excessive...like that immediate post 9/11 change when we had to eat our inflight meals with plastic knives. This won't be a popular suggestion but more 'profiling' at the security line would be more effective...not just for race, religion but also demeanor...the old japanese lady is unlikely to construct a bomb inflight, let her keep her toothpaste,..better odds on the group of young muslim males. There will be hue and cry from muslims and the politically correct...but hey, safety trumps fairness, and maybe then muslims will direct their anger at the radicals among them who are tainting their religion and causing us all to regard them with such suspicion. If the moderates are the majority then they should start speaking up...but we never hear from them and hey, sometimes silence can be interpreted as approval. I resent that I'm gonna have to start checking baggage now because of some angry nuts in england, schooled in hatred by some saudi-fund mosque.

The lack of racial profiling is specifically done for security reasons. The instant that you avoid applying restrictions to a certain group, that "safe" group will be abused.

The old Japanese lady may not build the bomb but she may very well carry supplies across security, even unintentionally by slipping something in with her stuff and retrieving it later on. Perhaps very effective if they're in the same seating area of the same flight so you have an excuse to share an overhead bin.

That's pretty scary, I live in E14, the same as the first guy on the list that was arrested...

cdl42: Thanks. 10 minutes is good news. Checked luggage it is then!
