Greyhound: Apart from that, how was your experience today?

The odds of being murdered or attacked by lunatics on a Greyhound bus are not as remote as one might think.

And if the crazies don't get you, maybe the driver will...

A Greyhound bus with 44 people aboard veered off U.S. 101 near here early Sunday, slid down an embankment, flipped on its side and hit a tree, killing a pregnant woman and a man. “There is a strong possibility that the driver fell asleep and ran off the road,” said Lt. Dan Minor, commander of the Santa Maria-area California Highway Patrol.

Like something from a Cohen brothers or David Lynch film.

Hard to fathom.

Hard to fathom indeed. I hate hearing stories like this. Imagine being the victims family and having to deal with your son's final moments being that degrading. I mean, a random, public beheading for seemingly no reason? Unbelievable.

I read about this just a little while ago in my RSS feeds. Absolutely nuts. I already told myself I'll never take Greyhound overnight again anywhere after taking it to Pittsburgh once. Way too many freaks on those buses and in the bus terminals.

I'm not so brash, at least because Greyhound travel's been a romantic draw for me since childhood--really.

Though these days, the banishment of all those Greyhound stations to the edge of town might be enough to drive me batty as a decapitator...

There are times when I crave old school justice... This is one of them... It's black and white... We can just skip the court and jury and get to the fun part.

I still believe in the justice system, even in a case such as this. If this person is disturbed, or insane, he still deserves treatment, though I would hope it would be in a secure facility like that in Penetanguishine and that he isn't out for quite a long time.

Reading the comments in some of the news sites, it looks like there's quite a few people calling for the death penalty, or worse, a summary execution. Please.

I can't stand the legal defense of mental impairment. If you killed someone, and it wasn't an (jury confirmed) accident, then you should have the book thrown at you. Who's to say that Manson, Bernardo, and everyone else that kills isn't a lunatic? But we throw them in jail for decades, or life. Meanwhile, as long as some lawyer can convince a jury or judge that the accused didn't understand their actions, or whatever, they can get out of jail or receive leniancy.

Nearly 3/4 of Surface Transport Terror Attacks Involve Personal Motor Vehicles – So US Security Officials Focus on ... Trains?

With the recent drive by shootings in Toronto and the incident on the bus near Winnipeg, I wonder why people are asking for more security on buses but ignore motor vehicles. Buses had about 9.5% of incidents vs 75.5% with private motor vehicles. Click on this link.
