With EXO planning to retire their 10 (at the moment 9 considering 1346 (ex GO 552) was involved in an accident and likely will be scrapped due to damage) ex GO F59PHs, how likely could it be that GO might try acquiring them next? (The 13 locomotive tender that this likely is involved with did have provisions to add 20 or more locomotives).

I think the chance is high, mainly to keep some running and gutting others for parts for our existing F59 fleet, and the ones being restored in North Bay.

I would think it'd make more sense to have all the ex EXO ones running and using the ex Metrolink ones for parts, considering the rough shape most of the ex Metrolink ones are in

I have a feeling that RFP related to the current rebuild of the ex Metrolink units, considering they have acquired 13 of them. Also I did not see anywhere that stated the locomotives had to be new builds.

ONR may have 13 units, but they only have three prime movers to fit into them.
The purchase of the ex-EXO units would be a relatively quick and easy way for them to bulk up that number.
The options are getting the units from ONR into service relatively quickly - a year or so - or putting in an order for new-build units, which will take 3 years or more.
Which would you rather?

I can see that, however, would it then not make sense to just use the 9 or so EXO units for revenue service? Rather than using their parts to fix other locomotives?

I agree that it would. But it would also be dependent on ONR's budget for the project, and how much EXO was looking to receive for the sale of those locos.

Recently I heard that Metra has around 11 F59PHIs in storage, those F59PHIs were bought as temporary units until they got permanent power which was the SD70MACHs and have gotten more of them passed the 15 70MACHs as originally ordered few years ago.
Perhaps GO/Metrolinx can look into those 11 F59PHIs from Metra and possibly buy the 2 other ex Metrolink F59PHIs with the SPTX reporting marks.

And it would depend on the material condition of those units, and their potential reliability if pressed into service immediately without the investment of a life extending rebuild.
My vote says ML is on the right track by wanting to rebuild before putting anything out on the line.
Foamers can dream about seeing all those sidelined units in GO service, but riders will not appreciate their train breaking down or being cancelled because its tired old second hand unit just lay down and died.
