GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

My friend group meets for brunch at Frannie's every Saturday, so I drive under the Kitchener line at Shantz Station Rd weekly. There's definitely been a lot of grading work at the northwest corner of the bridge embankment in the past month. Secretly I was hoping that they were setting up to twin the bridge, as I believe the abutments were built large enough for two tracks, and the north side is where the second span would go.
Frannies is a great brunch place! We go there about once a month as we live a couple minutes away. I think the bridge is part of phase 2 of the Kitchener GO Expansion and the goal is to have that all done in 2025, so likely 2024 construction. I assumed they will need that bridge done to increase service between Guelph and Kitchener.

Surveyed the east york GO tracks from access points (grey) and overpasses (white). Color is track tuple (red 2, orange 3, yellow 4). There are 3 bridge projects. Post 1/2...

Surveyed the east york GO tracks ...
Great photos - but none of the Lakeshore East tracks are in East York. Though some of the Richmond Hill tracks are.

It's been interesting watching the construction at Woodbine. They must have built the original bridge with the thought of being able to add a 4th track eventually. Which I'd never realized walking underneath it hundreds, if not thousands, of times.

I did a drive by today through Guelph and Acton to see what is going on with the announced siding projects there.

I have no pictures to share - because - I saw no signs whatsoever of forward motion to either prepare for, or advance, the creation of signalled sidings at these locations.

ML’s fanfare about the start of work at Breslau appears to have been a teaser for PR purposes only.

Quite possibly, that work is moot because the need to build things between Bramalea and Silver are prerequisites to adding any more service to Kitchener.

I did encounter the midmorning westbound GO train, which I suppose is some small consolation…. but why ML is not proceeding at warp speed on this route is beyond me. The solid truck and auto traffic on the 401 and up Highway 8 is not going away.

The control location light at Guelph and dual control switch is now in but not active

I’ve been advocating for this for a long time, so here is my latest video on an expanded Spadina station plus some drawings I did.

Reece, I’m glad your advocating for this. Some advice I’d give to move this forward is attend every consultation/public meeting that Metrolinx holds. I’m sure your planning on it, but even if they don’t go forward with the superior design I’m sure the planners at one of the meetings would tell you why. I know that’s a question you’ve been grappling with.
