Finch West Line 6 LRT

You are overthinking it. They will just run a convenient shuttle from the nearest station to Woodbine.

If there's not enough interest/volume, they will just rely on TTC/drivers like they do currently.

Precisely my point, if after the cost of building a new "woodbine station" we were still left with the hassle/expense of having to shuttle people around the grounds to get to the front door.....we may as well just serve woodbine via shuttles from Etobicoke North along Bethridge Road and into the grounds.

Capital Projects Group Report, December 2016:
The Request for Proposal (RFP) for the DBFM contract for the Finch West LRT was released in February 2016 and the project is now in the in-market period. Meetings with the three proponents (Humber Valley Transit Partners, Mosaic Transit Group and FACT Partners) are ongoing, with a focus on the design presentation meetings. These meetings will help prepare the proponents in completing their proposals in Winter 2017. The successful proponent will be announced after commercial and financial close in Summer 2017.

This would seem to indicate the Financial Closed was pushed back from April 2017 to the Fall 2017.

June 2017:
In May 2017, Alstom was confirmed as the new vehicle supplier for Finch West LRT and the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Design Build Finance Maintain (DBFM) contract for the Finch West LRT project has resumed. Utility works are now underway on various sections of the corridor.

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to follow when the main Finch West LRT contract winning bid will be announced. So based on information here and on the Metrolinx website, it will be announced in the fall of this year? Is there any estimated time frame in the fall or fall means any day between September 1st and early November? Also, does that mean after the announcement the main construction will start immediately? What about staging and getting set up etc? You can't start in December or after the first snowfall.

Just trying to get educated.

The Feburary 2017 update I posted above indicated the RFP winner would be announced on the Fall of 2017 but the June 2017 didn't mention this. It could be that selecting Alstorm to provide the LRVs delayed things. Originally vehicle selection was left up to the bidders meaning they could have included in their bids other manufacturers including (some will gaspe) Bombardier.

Originally the vehicle order was not bundled with FWLRT (BBD LRVs were to be used system wide)

Then Metrolinx decided to bundle a separate LRV order with the bids for FWLRT construction.

A few months later they decided they'd buy Alstom trains separately, contradicting their request to have the LRV ordered bundled with FWLRT. So essentially the RFP requirements should be as they were before Metrolinx's request to have LRV orders bundled with the FWLRT.

It's as if the left hand doesn't know what the right was doing. Or maybe this was an intentional song-and-dance to threaten Bombardier.

I hazard a guess that Bombardier was expected to win the Finch contract (as lowest bid within a partnership) by promising to deliver the pre-ordered LRVs at the price already agreed upon which caused Metrolinx to order separately.

Either that, or Alstom was simply willing to give a much better rate for 200 units than 20.
