I don't understand why this is an issue. A woman in Canada can have an abortion for any reason she wants in Canada. Now that it's about gender selection in minority communities we suddenly care?

Gender selection is a problem whoever is doing it. But the evidence says it is only happening in large numbers within certain first generation immigrant communities. Pointing this out is not racist, at least I don't think so.

You're right that this is legal, in the sense that we do not have an abortion law in Canada. But it is a problem for all of us as a society. If you don't agree, try asking a man born under China's one-child policy how easy it is to get a date.

Technically, it's sex selection, not gender selection.

I have no problem with people selecting sex, as long as it's consensual.

In Canada you can have an abortion for any reason whatsoever, or no reason at all beyond not wanting the kid.

The only moral issue I could possibly see is if women are being pressured by family or their cultural group to have the test and abort the female fetuses. If it's coerced consent then that's akin to assault, IMO.

On the other hand, gender imbalance in some second-generation communities will promote miscegenation, which is awesome. Cute babies!
