Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

We spent $538.00 on internet last month. We’re retired. And we can’t even upload photos? We use Bell Hub. Explornet was awful. Bring on Starlink!
Wow, that's nasty. We were on a Bell Turbostick (before the hubs came out) and it was expensive if the usage got up - no streaming! I've heard a lot of complaints from folks that tried Explornet, including my brother. Our daughter's next door neighbour got on the Starlink beta service. Pretty impressive speed, no data cap (for now?). Assuming VOIP phone will work but they use a landline; no TV service. It's $129/mth plus about $800 up-front costs.

Amazing aerial view, looking S/E, at the industrial centre of Leaside c.1929.
The former Canada Wire & Cable Co., now a huge shopping complex, with the original Leaside Aerodrome to its north.
Thorncliff Racetrack is seen in the background at right.
Eglinton in the foreground and in the distance at top-left can be seen the RR bridge where Eglinton now extends thru to Leslie & beyond..

I can remember seeing all three of these buildings in the 1970s when I was a suburban kid who found these sorts of old buildings fascinating.

I can live w/o the Cyclorama; but could we tear down the Citi building and put Walker House back up please?

Walking to work this morning I came across this plaque on a retaining wall located at the SW corner of Front and John.

I did some research and apparently the HDR Run stands for "Hot Dog Run". A group of guys with corvettes would go cruising toronto every Thursday night after which they would park downtown and grab a hot dog.

A hot dog stand was located where this plaque is just prior to covid but I haven't seen it in ages.

I do not think that is Eglinton in the foreground, probably Vanderhoof. It aligns better with the railway bridge than Eglinton does. Eglington is just off to the bottom left out of frame.
