Just read this today:

Customers travelling on Durham Region Transit buses may board GO Transit buses with a pre-paid DRT ticket, pass or transfer. Passengers travelling with DRT tickets and passes on the GO Bus and requiring a transfer will be issued a transfer. A GO transfer ticket stamped DRT provides a record of the trip as a GO Transit passenger. Customers are required to keep the GO ticket on their person as evidence of the paid GO fare. The transfer ticket is also accepted as a transfer on all DRT buses providing it meets DRT’s transfer policy to ensure a continuous trip with no stop-overs. Passengers with GO Bus tickets, paying regular GO Bus fares, are not valid for transfer to DRT buses.

Free transfers to and from GO bus and Durham transit routes! Imagine if you could transfer for free from GO to TTC as long as you were travelling within Toronto (kind of like zone 1-2 travel on the Paris metro and RER lines). Build some better connections between the existing subways and the GO stations, and it'd be like instant expansion of the subway network!

The GO Durham Region transfer policy, has to do with the fact that GO runs the HIGHWAY 2 bus, which is basically a local transit service within Durham Region.

For the transfer and Durham Region passes to be valid, you have to travel the GO BUS route only within Durham Region.

This agreement does not apply to the GO TRAIN service or TRAIN BUS service within Durham. Only to GO BUSES not associated with the train service.
