Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

The bike lanes on the Esplanade east of Sherbourne were not cleared, same with the lanes on Richmond.

That is true for most of the last winter but they were still 'under construction' and there really were no bike lanes as they had neither lines nor barriers. They have been cleared in past years. The lines are now repainted and they keep saying the mini-Jerseys are going back 'very soon".

The York Boulevard entrance to Hamilton is coming along well, grass is in. The Eastbound side is still under construction all summer.

York Boulevard integrates directly into both the Cannon St protected track across the city and the Plains Road system entering Burlington.

Nice bike path thats been built on York, my gripe is that the drop down from the bike path at the intersecting streets is dramatic and not pleasant to ride over. Still too car centric of a design and it seems this is what Hamilton is rolling out more of around the city. This project needed level crossings.

It is an unfortunate decision that will punish recreational cyclists taking those drops at speed, especially given this is the path many roadies from downtown like myself would take to get to escarpment’s hills. Ditto for cyclists from Toronto arriving in West Harbour for a visit. With that said, on my folding bike at slow speeds, I can’t say that drop was all that noticeable, truthfully.

We won't discuss how long this has been in the works......... it would be kind of embarrassing for all involved.

I'm not throwing any one person or dept under the proverbial bus.............but its been around a long time.

Full credit to whoever gave it a swift kick to get it moving again.

Edit to add:

This link will have trail reach from the Lake to Sherway Drive. It is fairly feasible, from there, to get to the Queensway, which is the next logical priority.

The section north of that is much more challenging due to topography and more extensive private landownership as well.

You take it north from the Queensway across the creek into Mississauga, and then into the hydro corridor, intersecting Mattawa, Dundas, and northwards. Part of that is already a multiuse path.

Lmao the ones on the way to Queen's Park.....

"Sources say Thursday’s provincial budget legislation will include the removal of the bike lanes on Queen’s Park Crescent, around the legislative precinct, and on Avenue Road south of Davenport Road."

For the benefit of "the people".

The city should respond wiht taking away a lane each way on Avenue to widen the sidewalks if this goes ahead. And perhaps close part of the west route of Queen's Park Crescent to connect Queen's Park to UofT for pedestrians better.

You take it north from the Queensway across the creek into Mississauga, and then into the hydro corridor, intersecting Mattawa, Dundas, and northwards. Part of that is already a multiuse path.

There is also the possibility I think of extending it northwards along the Little Etobicoke Creek towards Dixie GO and the Applewood trail. There is already a gravel path under the rail bridge to Mattawa Ave. The block at Mattawa and Dundas is being developed (Here's the project thread), and perhaps the path could be extended as part of that development. Past that, the section of the creek north of Dundas to Dixie Rd is already part of Mississauga's master cycling plan.
