BMO Field

I'm still kind of surprised that someone thinks soccer will take off here. This town already draws good support for hockey and basketball, and decent (but not tremendous) support for baseball and the Argos. Add to the mix Lacrosse, which draws pretty well, and two minor league or junior hockey teams, where's the audience for soccer? There is a serious amount of pro sports in this town.

We have over 6 million people in the region.

Surely there's room for 20,000/week.

I plan on purchasing at least 3 season tickets.

More young people play soccer than hockey in the GTA. I think the soccer team and stadium will be success.

Exhibition Place is the perfect site for this new stadium. On the waterfront, with plenty of parking and transit connections. Thank heavens it wasn't built at York or Vaughan!

While I'm disappointed the Sports Hall of Fame is being taken down, we have managed to save all the mature trees that surrounded the building and will be replanted. I tried to save the waterfountain, but at today's board meeting I was told that the construction crew already got rid of it.

The actual soccer franchise is not that big a risk for MLSE. A low budget soccer specific stadium with government grants is a no-brainer. It will be used regardless of a soccer franchise.

What I don't understand is why the Hall of Fame is being demolished when right next to it is the huge parking lot where Exhibition stadium was. What's the reason?

Likewise. I think people will be surprised how successful this franchise will be. If freaking lacrosse can attract 10-15,000 crowds then surely soccer can get that many people out to games. Also, let's not underestimate the marketing prowess of MLSE. They might know f**k all about putting together a decent team, but they sure as hell know how to sell tickets and condos.

Soccer is the worlds biggest sport.Toronto being a multiculture city will have no problem attracting fans The reason soccer has not taken off is we have profesional soccer teams that are really 3rd division teams in any country The MLS is not the best but it is a start plus it will attract some big name european clubs to play exibition games here.I am connected to youth soccer in Toronto and it is taking off more than hockey. Canada has more kids enrolled in competitive soccer than hockey

i too will be buying season tickets. Can't wait for Toronto's first REAL soccer-specific stadium. FieldTURF is a perfect fit, amazing location (esp. over York and Downsview), should have been a bit larger seating capacity... but overall... I CAN'T WAIT !!!!!

It would be nice if MLSE recognized this and create a team around the multicultural theme. Is there a limit on the number of international players in the MLS? If not, maybe MLSE should go out and get some players to represent some of Toronto's ethnic groups- Italians, Greeks, Koreans, Portuguese, etc.

My understanding is that land south of the Stadium and north of Lakeshore is zoned for a future hotel (casino)

This is a silly idea. They should focus on getting the best players, not their backgrounds.

There's a rumour that the new MLS team will be called Inter Toronto FC

The trademark was registered with CIPO and the USPTO within the past month.

MLSE is all about marketing and that name is a marketing nightmare. I would be very very surprised if that is the name.
