Blue Jays

Not sure if Blue Jays related, but for the first time in the tournaments history, team Canada has finally made it out of the group stages of the WBC and will advance to the quarter finals where they'll face team USA.

Would be interesting if America beat us in hockey, but we beat them in baseball.

Rough start to the season to say the least. Growing list of players on the injured list, cold bats everywhere, shaky bullpen performances, lost series vs Rockies, swept by the White Sox, and shellacked by the Dodgers. Still early days of course but the team will need to figure things out and become more consistent.

See..

This is what I was telling people.

They caught lighting in a bottle last year and may not be able to replicate it. Unfortunately, with the significantly jacked up prices this year there will be alot of angry people if they miss the playoffs (or even have to fight for a wild card spot).

Think the biggest indictment was coming out of Athletics, Rockies, and White Sox effectively at .500. Not good enough for a team looking to go deep again this season.

Of course, they started last season poorly as well, and it's a long summer.

A lot of the things that went in the Jays' favour last season are going against them now. Springer was rejuvenated last year, but now off to a slow-ish start and naturally a bit older. Kirk was healthy and an all-star but now injured. Barger had a breakthrough but was off to a terrible start and now also injured. Journeyman Lukes also had a breakthrough but hasn't been as effective so far this season. Varsho struggling too. We lost Bichette, although Okamoto is expected to hopefully fill that gap.

Until the Jays get some of the injured batters and pitchers back, and everyone else including Vladdy to get more consistent, the lineup doesn't look that formidable right now.

It's really only the middle of the lineup (Guerrero, Clement, Gimenez, Okamoto) batting well and the starters starting well who are playing up to their standards. Rest of the team, but especially the bullpen, has been a letdown. Demoting Little was addition-by-subtraction at this stage.

A reminder, though, that last season they were 5-5 after ten games and at different points 13-16 and 16-20. They only really started getting hot in June. The upcoming MIL-ARZ-LAA stretch should shine a light on whether they'll turn a corner or not.
