a little variety, please ...

I know most of these, but not all. Where was that last photo taken? The one with the inverted bluish triangles?

that's the south east corner of Carlaw and Riverdale...

I'm thinking that, yes, the sign itself will not survive, but a crap load of photos of it from it's second life will. What kind of survival would it have had, had it not been uncovered/recovered? Are there any photos of it from it's first life? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it's had a good second life, and it's been photographed pretty much every day of that second life!!!

A photo that I took of this sign from August 7, 2006 ...

Searching through the archives I came oh so close to getting a vintage shot of that store. The pic below is just a few doors down. I think that open awning on the far left would be it. There was a drug store next door and gas pumps on the sidewalk next to the drug store.

Thanks for these posts! Some very good stuff, indeed.

^What the deepend said! Thanks, I actually forgot where it was exactly myself. I do remember its no longer a convenience store though. I thinks it been converted to a fabric store or something.

Here's another one I came across today - 1990 Eglinton West:

Formerly "Nass Milk" (you can seill see the shadowy "Nass" underneath). I suppose a Mac's Milk knockoff with a bear substituting for a pussycat...

I grew up hanging out at this c-store for way too many years.

Good spot! I never noticed the "shadow Nass"

A couple more store signs I found deep in the bowels of my hard drive:

BJ Variety - Beyond Belief - I think somewhere near Dundas & Roncesvalles (??)

And not a variety store, but a deli, out on the "Dirty Lake Shore".........

The sign above says "tax"; the sign below says "fax". (And what's with the "massage tools"?)

Most subversive: the "Legalize Shemp" in the middle of everything.

I have a theory on the proliferation of 'variety' stores.
They all seem to have a license to sell lottery tickets and whenever I'm visiting, the lottery sales appear to be constant.
I'll bet the commission on those sales is the greatest portion of their income.
Could this wild theory be correct?

as far as I know they don't receive any money from OLG. They just benefit from the increased foot traffic.

Do you mean that OLG is dealing with unpaid labour?
Quick, call in the Ontario ombudsman!

More great shots collations! I see you were down in my neck of the woods this time...

The old Canada Dry ones are probably my favourites:

They seem to be an increasing rarity. Here's one I found a few weeks ago though:

And another from a few years ago:

I think these might be the only three I know of. Any others out there??
