Hello

This is a little piece of trivia I hope some of you good Torontians could help me with. Where on Yonge Street was this store situated in the 1970s and 1980s?

My understanding, from Google Earth, is it was situated at the junction of Yonge and Elm. Can anyone confirm or contradict this?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards

Richie

It was on the east side, not the west. It was in Future Shop's old building (now being demo'ed for Ryerson)

Edit: I've seen a larger version of this photo posted somewhere in the City Photos forum

And even wikipedia'ing A&A Records would have told you that it was located at 351 Yonge

I thought Futureshop was in the building next to it. Was it not the building that had the two discs of lights above it -- that Sam the Record man took over (three store locations patched together - the northmost was A&A)... from that picture - obviously not - forgot about the bank end. I guess my old memory fades quicker than I thought

There is this thin line between edginess and trashiness that Yonge street has unforunately crossed. Flashing lights, titty bars, late night record stores, old school arcades and greasy pizza joints (old Yonge street) are edgy and unique while stores that sell TuPac/Scarface posters, tattoo parlours and souvenir stores (the new Yonge street strip) are trashy and a civic embarassment. Notice, too, that the internet (ie: mp3s, multiplayer gaming and internet porn) has basically rendered the services provided by the old Yonge street obsolete.

It was located at 351 Yonge Street. It has now become part of Ryerson University
