New 7 Wonders of the World Campaign Announces the 21 Finalist Candidates

ZURICH, Switzerland, Jan. 3 /CNW/ - The Chairman of a panel of leading
architectural experts has announced the 21 world's landmark sites which will
take part in the final stage of the race to become one of the New 7 Wonders of
the World.

voting via the internet, live events and an international television series
produced by the world's no.1 television company Endemol.
On 1 January 2007, the Official Declaration of the New 7 Wonders of the
World will take place during a live globally televised event.
Chaired by the former Director General of UNESCO, Prof. Dr. Federico
Mayor from Spain, the New 7 Wonders Panel of Experts is made up of leading

Yeah, the Sydney Opera House definitely doesn't belong... the CN Tower is more deserving. I don't think the Eiffel Tower belongs either.
 
I was very disappointed that they did not include Sri Lanka's SIGIRIYA in the list of nominations in the website www.new7wonders.com

In my opinion, without this World-wonder on the list, I feel it is incomplete.

Why is the CN tower not on the list?

The Western world with their Internet connections and long distance codes will be the only ones voting. An average person in Nepal will never be able to participate in this "history making vote". Do you think this is fair to the rest of the world?

More info is need on the list of nominees. By lack of info presented, most people will vote for the places they have only heard of (ex. Paris Effeil Tower).

Furthermore, this site takes too long to load. Most will move on before they place a vote. Good i guess.

Better, more accurate execution is needed. Very Disappointing. I won't be voting.
 
No disrespect to our Aussie friends, but what the hell is the Sydney Opera House doing on that list?
 
I visited Chichen Itza in 03 and let me tell you it does deserve a place on that list. But yeah, where is CN?
 
And who the hell appointed the "expert panel" in the first place?

What a complete waste of time and energy. The whole thing is a joke.

Though ultimately, unless you're a super-partisan super-boosterish Torontonian--why the CN Tower? Other than being really really tall and a real local landmark, it doesn't quite have that Wonder-Of-The-World oomph.

I'd say the Eiffel Tower serves perfectly well as an "our founder" emissary for all observation super-towers and communications masts out there...
 
I say the CN Tower is not deserving of this list either.

The CN Tower is one of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World".

I agree the CN Tower doesn't belong on this list, just saying it's more deserving than the Sydney Opera House.
 
i agree about the statue of liberty. and i wouldnt have shortlisted the colosseum either. not to take away from it, but there are so many other (and better preserved) choices in the area. i'd have shortlisted st. peter's basilica ahead of the colosseum. or the parthenon even
 
The people in charge of making lists of things have to do something to keep themselves occupied since the rush of pointless lists accompanying the millennium is long gone.
