2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

How many non-incumbent winners will there be on council?

  • Total voters
    22
  • Poll closed .
Any word on who will be running in the new downtown wards? Assuming that all of the incumbents run again, there will be four vacant seats - one that was McConnell's and three new seats.

^Hopefully some individual's with some common sense and not the Mammo/Holyday/DiCiano style insane councillors that we see in the suburbs.

Hahaha. Only the best and the brightest...

BREAKING: Cllr Mammoliti is expected to announce his intention to run in the provincial election later today. He'll be seeking the nomination for Brampton Centre.

Ford and Mammo leaving is great news for city council, bad news for the city overall.

Rumour has it that Interim (appointed) Ward 28 Councillor Lucy Trosi will be running for Council in the southern part of current Ward 28 (new Ward 21). This is despite her unequivocal statement at the Council meeting when she was appointed saying she would not run in any Council race. She was strongly supported (and strongly supports) the right-wing side of Council so is not well suited to the Ward. See http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/video.do?id=13568

UPDATE: Just got this, she seems to have pissed off at least some locals! http://www.slna.ca/news/overnight-construction-not-ok

New Progress Toronto political group plans to shake up the status quo at city hall

The new political organization, Hay told the Star, plans to both influence decision-making at city hall through organized community activism and also advocate for progressive candidates to win seats in the upcoming election.

Interesting that both Alejandra Bravo and Alex Mazer are members. Are they going to run again?

Bravo will not run. It's possible that Mazer will run, but I doubt it. The Davenport area loses a seat with the new council boundaries, which will likely see Gord Perks elected in the south bit cut off, while Bailao and Palacio will probably duke it out in the northern half. Bailao isn't great, but she's a moderate with John Tory's support.

Is there any way to become a member of this new organization? They don't appear to have a web page.

Not sure if it will be a membership organization. I reckon it will be a way to build supporter lists, media attention and ultimately provide endorsements and a pool of volunteers to new council candidates like Ausma Malik and Matthew Kellway.

I was going to call it an arms length NDP organization but they have a few people from outside the Dipper machine, including Alex Mazer who is a card-carrying Liberal.
