So Stintz gets blamed for the Scarborough fiasco while our do nothing mayor gets credit for getting them a subway. Sounds about right.

(a) if he loses, he'll more likely sink into fringe-caseness than comeback-kidness

(b) will he even be *alive* in 2018, that's a whole other question.

Thoughtful people are always beset by doubts. However, do you think those Ford brothers will be doing anything except putting their heads down and charging forward? They will tackle anyone in their way. We need to be a lot more like that. We have to assume that there is no way in hell that he will get back in, and work really hard at the same time to ensure he doesn't. If you have an idea (the Ford more tears is a great one) then get it out into the public realm. Anyone who cares about Toronto CANNOT be apathetic like what happened in 2010.

I had the exact same thought. Ford's mortality is the elephant in the room.

He is 300 pounds and has drug and alcohol problems. That combination is far more likely to get rid of him than the police are.
 
Olivia Chow is a socialist. Toronto doesn't need a socialist mayor. It's too wealthy a city. Socialism would not work well here. We need a mayor with a balanced platform. Let's hope such a candidate emerges.

Olivia Chow is an Urbanist. RoFo is a Suburbanist. Etobicoke isn't recognized worldwide for its attributes, Downtown Toronto is...

He has no reason to drop out. I think the first to exit will be someone who wouldn't want to risk losing their council seat by going all the way. So either Stintz or Minnan-Wong (if he runs) or another councillor that decides to run.

I want to see Josh Matlow enter the race. I don't care that he's a rookie councillor. But he probably won't. I will be very disappointed if he doesn't run 4 years from now.

Even if Boris bested him twice in the end, London didn't exactly become an un-booming hellhole under "Red Ken" Livingstone--anything but...

Though he's (apparently) losing weight as part of his, uh, "rehab". (Which begs the question as to whether well-meaning family quackery-in-the-name-of-denial is what'll *really* bring him down)

And I thought the argument against socialism is that taxpayers can't afford it.
