Sounds a little fishy to me.

I mean, no Great Gulf Homes or Context for builders of the year?? Sounds like companies probably paid them off to be nominated

Shane Baghai? Are you serious?

Tarion is the "canadian navy" in builder vs. buyer wars.

Toothless, arrogant, uninformed, lazy, mediation (yeah right)... the perfect organization mandated to protect the interests of home-buyers.

If got an award from Tarion, it would just reinforce what others have said ... "u r an a-hole".

Excellence in what? Low defect rate? Meeting financial targets? Architecture? I would guess that the Tarion awards would have less to do with architecture or style and more to do with delivering what was promised with few complaints.

Why exactly do you think Context or Great Gulf should be nominated?

The Tarion Awards of Excellence are based on after sales service. They have nothing whatsoever to do with architecture or planning. Shane Baghai is well known for quality after sales service. Tridel and Daniels have both won a few times in the past - so no surprise there.

The 2005 Tarion Awards of Excellence

The Tarion Awards of Excellence are the premier customer service awards for new home builders in Ontario. Participation is by invitation only and less than 7% of Ontario builders qualify each year.

To be eligible for the awards, builders must have a low ratio of conciliations to possessions and requests for conciliation to possessions for the past five years as well as no chargeable conciliations or paid claims during this period.

Builders compete in four categories:

Small Volume Builder of the Year
For builders with an average of 3-10 possessions per year over the last five years.

Medium Volume Builder of the Year
For builders with an average of 11-99 possessions per year over the last five years.

Large Volume Builder of the Year
For builders with an average of 100 or more freehold possessions per year over the last five years.

High Rise Builder of the Year
For builders with an average of 100 or more high rise possessions per year over the last five years.

Eligible builders are evaluated by an independent research organization based on the results of random homeowners surveys and an assessment of their customer service policies and practices. Twelve finalists are then selected and winners in each of the four categories are announced at the Tarion Awards of Excellence gala.

The 2005 Tarion Awards of Excellence will be held in Toronto on September 20, 2005 at the Liberty Grand.

Almost every single builder has no claims through Tarion because they don't want their insurance rates to increase. So if Tarion is basing it upon this then this whole competition is a sham.

This quote means nothing when it's zero for everyone "builders must have a low ratio of conciliations to possessions and requests for conciliation to possessions for the past five years as well as no chargeable conciliations or paid claims during this period."

And the reason why "Only about seven per cent of the 5,300 registered builders in Ontario qualified to participate in the 2005 awards" is due to the fact that most of the builders only put up one or two buildings a year. They would be excluded - even from the small volume category.

This whole thing is just a marketing ploy for Tarion. Where do you think the fees that you pay go?
