Chicago Tribune compliments Toronto's transit system -- thoughts?

What a beautiful map. You've got to love New York.

    Beltline Trail

A bridge isn't needed - there are bridges over two lightly used roads nearby. But the connection to Marlee and on to the trail on the west side of the Allen is essential. It should have been done long ago. https://www.thestar.com/life/2015/01/15/the-beltline-trail-keeps-growing-micallef.html...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

510 runs at 12.3 kph during morning rush - down from 14.1 kph before the Queen's Quay refurb. I guess that's the scheduled speed - doesn't allow for the effect of short turns, etc. Even off peak (early Sunday morning) it is not much better. The street design is just a disaster for LRT. 501 Long...

But not too short to say life is too short for this?

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

There's obviously a direct link between vilifying and impeding cyclists, and keeping people driving the cars that are the real problem. Your failure to make this elementary logical step is even more troubling than your callous disregard for pain and suffering in South Sudan.

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

That's a good summary of my arguments, which are just as convincing as ever. Thanks for that! Cars cause literally thousands of deaths in the GTA every year. This is a fact. Where's the UT thread dedicated to discussing that problem? I look forward to reading about your outrage there too.

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Really interesting stuff, steve, thanks for posting. So this is a much more streamlined process than expropriation would be (though still politically difficult perhaps). A minor quibble: Governor-in-Council means a federal Cabinet decision. You're thinking of "Governor in Council appointments"...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Sigh. I don't wonder you find statistics gives you unexpected results. If I got behind the controls of a jumbo jet it would give unexpected results too!

*headdesk* Try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_linear_regression to get you started. But, in an equation, t^2 = DF * R^2/(1-R^2)

    Rail Deck Park (?, ?, ?)

Boo. Esplanade Park is really a very clever suggestion. A pleasant name long applied to this area. And sort of a wink to Toronto's long history of failed mega-project planning. Well done, WK!

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

$600 is your hourly operating cost per train? That doesn't seem to come close. If they spent $63 million operating 5 trains for 10 months, 20 hours per day, then that's $2,100/hr. It's looking very much like the problem is not fare or ridership, it's operating cost. Why so much?

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Thanks for posting that reaper. Aside from the detour around the reservoir it looks like a comfortable ride. Except that last bit through the Finch TTC parking lot - a bit dangerous! They really owe you something better through there.

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

That's interesting, but why do you say it's about connecting both to Lansdowne and to Dundas West station? I could not see any mention of the Bloor-Dundas W connection in that Board report. A 750m tunnel connecting Lansdowne TTC to Dundas W TTC seems huge, and the retail development you...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

Any insight from the local community on why Metrolinx is looking at such a southerly station? They do claim they want a connection to Lansdowne station (paid for by Toronto) so why not north of Bloor? Have they just not looked at a map?
