Maybe, I have misheard the news and you are probably right about the digital installation but they will not keep the old IMAX projector since it has been already dismantled from what I seen at the loading dock.

Sobey's parent company Empire Co is getting out of the cinema business. The Square One theatres is being sold to Western Canadian chain Landmark Theatres.

Since the Oshawa Centre is near the Oshawa/Whitby border, it would not make sense to open a movie theatre there because it would go against Empire Theatres Whitby which is a 24 screener.
All the stores are closing and I think it has to do with Sport Chek being the owner of the chain. Since Sport Chek is across the mall, they don't want A.W. to steal its sales and probably to save money on rent.
