Tangental reply: the tower that signifies the start of the 'condo/highrise boom' in Toronto is the Pantages Tower.

Thanks for the pictures Marcanadian. As your pictures demonstrate, for the most part, this building will bleed into the urban background, noticed by some, and be a landmark for others. The biggest shame to me is the poor state of the lower levels.

Which is quite funny because for years this forum was railing against condos that used 'cheap green glass' and wishing they'd incorporate the more expensive 'blue glass'.

Thanks Mike for you stable voice calling for calm, and respecting the methods of the market (to the determent of fan-boys everywhere).

    2014 Ontario Provincial Election

Hey all, my last self-promoting post in this thread. I recently spoke with Matt Elliott (@graphicmatt) from Metro re: the need for dedicated transit funding, and why voters should consider the Green Party...

    2014 Ontario Provincial Election

I'd like to encourage everyone to vote - vote Liberals, vote PCs, vote NDPs, vote Green, vote for the other parties, even refuse your ballot... But vote. It's important we all take the time and make the effort to have a say. --- Looking ahead: Based upon current polling it seems like we're...

    2014 Ontario Provincial Election

Hello all, I'll interject the discussion for a shameless plug. I'm running for the Green Party in Scarborough Southwest. Like many of you, I'm extremely underwhelmed with the vision of the 'big 3 parties' - especially in terms of urban issues and transit. I'm carrying the banner for the...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Everything she said is true. Your post is bad and you should feel bad for posting it.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I can believe it was an imitation of a pro-wrestler in advanced of his arm wrestling 'match' against Hulk Hogan. I think a good question to ask is: was he drunk, high, or using some other substance when it was recorded?

    Rob Ford's Toronto

No - there was no further stripping of powers. Ford lost some votes on his appointed Executive Committee (under normal circumstances this might be surprising, but with Ford it just speaks to the fact no one takes any direction from him anymore).

Wow. Happy days are here again in terms of large new office tower proposals. Over the recent while, has there been an appreciable, (but behind the scenes) increase in new and expanding businesses seeking office space, or are many of these project purely anticipatory for when demand warrants?

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

    Indeed - I'm the other son. :)

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Hearing this 3rd (or 4th) hand, and supposedly this originates with someone in the media: Ford was receiving envelopes of cash from Lisi to help funnel city projects to certain contractors. I'm not going to advocate for us to widely speculate here (in fact I discourage it), but I put it out...

CowboyLogic, do you agree Ford promised everything I've indicated above? If not, which specific ones do you believe he didn't promise?

    400 foot List

cc46, the significance of 400 feet goes back over a decade when I first started compiling earlier iterations of this list. At that time Toronto had less than a dozen 500 foot buildings with only a handful under construction or proposed. What Toronto did have (what seemed like at the time) was...

    Vertical Toronto article at thestar.com

I like how they threw in the Pantages Tower in the timeline of tall towers - as I remarked in another thread the Pantages really did define the new tall condo era as it was the first tower over 400 feet/40 floors in around a decade.

Top 10 High-rises built this decade

I just have to chime in and say whether or not you like the building - the Pantages Tower marks Toronto entrance into this new era of tall towers. After a long drought (of around 8 years or so), it was the first tower to crack 400+ feet and the first tower of at least 40 floors. And now here we...
