Adding to WFH, A.I. will likely further decimate office jobs in the coming one or two decades (and beyond). I honestly can't see the demand for office space ever returning to the levels they were at pre-covid. It's a different world now and we're never going back.

Surely the downtown core can't offer a more challenging site for subway construction than the urban jungle of Yonge and Egg.

Really glad to find this new thread. I live just a few blocks from this place and am part of a group that meets here on a regular basis. It's actually quite a fantastic complex, especially for such a small city, and I'm amazed that it's financially sustainable.

Well, here in the thread-where-time-stands-still, it really does appear that this thing's barely moved in 2 or 3 months. At this rate it won't top out until next summer (at which point Pinnacle One Yonge will have overtaken it, and CIBC 2 will be ready for its new occupants). And, keep in mind...

Personally, I think that--in an ideal universe--all of the anthropological/world civilization stuff would be exhibited separately in its own museum. Well, two cultural amenities the city is sorely lacking is a decent modern art gallery and a planetarium. I'm just dreaming here, but the Hearn could easily fit them both!

It's really a shame that the developers didn't try to achieve something like "The Well" with this project. The potential was definitely there: huge local population, direct connection to The Path, proper mix of commercial and residential, and the absence of anything similar in the area. Really...
