Sharon Yetman's Subway Safety Plan (Better barrier for subways 'an obsession')

"Believe me, I wish someone could quickly prove me wrong, so that I could get my life back." 1. But it is not $500000 per station. All the engineering and safety considerations exist for a reason. 2. While I like the idea of having separate in and out doors (and it can be done without...

    Ubisoft coming to Toronto

As far as corporate subsidies go, this looks like a good investment. Yes, it's $328k/job, but most of those jobs would be > $50k/job. Also, this will benefit other businesses in that industry (think digital media companies, sound, studios for motion capture).

Colour Me Impressed: the New "old" Tile at St. Andrew Station

Looks nice overall, but I agree with the St. Andre W comment. The EW pair is not supposed to have the same spacing as the other characters. I think it's called kerning.

    We HATE Toronto!

I don't think that is the primary hating demographic. People who come from other places almost always absolutely love Toronto. I've seen this both from people from places that I esteem highly and from places that I consider crappy. I went to the Toronto TransitCamp dealie in Feb 2007. They did...

    Wanted: World-class nickname for Toronto

I agree with you. The people of Toronto are one of the whiniest I have ever seen. Everyone is putting down Toronto for one reason or the other. Outside of these boards, SSC, Spacing etc., nobody seems to take pride in Toronto. I'm still ambivalent about the Olympics, but we have to pursue 2020...

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

They already can take "high speed" rail. In quotes because Acela doesn't cut much travel time over traditional rail because of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acela_Express#Operating_speeds_and_limitations @kpd: Haven't you seen The Wire? Baltimore is awesome!

The Star: Toronto's island airport gets second, bigger ferry

I'm a Porter convert as well. They should just build a short boardwalk type ped-bridge. What's the distance between the banks? I don't recall it being very long.

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Question: what options to we have in new DMUs? How much do new ones cost? I know that Bombardier Talents cannot be used because of North American safety regulations, but is there a way around it? I was looking around Wikipedia, and found that Siemens Desiro MUs, which I assume are similar to...

Dense City? adding 2 million people!

What is this, SimCity? You can't just change low-density into mid and high density. It's a lot more organic, and money and power have a lot to do with it. Whatever increase in zoning density we'll see will happen in $ areas. The $$ and $$$ cannot be changed into mid and high density.

    UofT Skylight

What is considered mundane at any time is destroyed or covered up. What gets covered up is saved from destruction, and later generations get to uncover it and re-appreciate it. I don't see any reason for it to be uniquely North American.
