    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

    Thanks, updated the OP.

The massing is rather awkward, and I don't understand why the tower hangs over Silver Dollar. It would look better centered above the glass section of the podium.

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

It is going quickly, but not perfectly. There are several stations slated for completion in the summer that are still not done.

Interesting, I had no idea that was there. Never had an occasion to go inside either building.

Is that a tunnel between the direct energy centre and allstream centre?

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

TTC has put up special signage at Bathurst station to honour Honest Ed's: https://twitter.com/bradTTC/status/793403483873574917

730 St Clarens Avenue restoration (Akelius Properties, 23s, ArchDesign)

Agreed, something Mondrian-ish would be good.

Lawrence West is also done, apparently.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Got a notice at work that Metrolinx will be moving Enbridge lines along Finch near HWY 27 in preparation for LRT construction. Work beginning by early Nov and finishing in 6-8 weeks.

    Toronto 2 Carlton | 251.1m | 73s | Northam | Arcadis

I fail to see how banning/reducing development would help anything. It would likely create two new problems: a housing shortage (already an issue) and an even greater strain on the transit system as the new residents from the suburbs commute downtown to work. Downtown residents at least usually...

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

I'd say yes, it's even happened to me. If you miss the destination sign on Line 1 and are heading past St Clair West you might be surprised to be kicked off when it short turns. I've also had many people ask me where the train is going at terminal stations like Kipling. Not an overwhelming...

People use far too much salt here as well. It's hell on shoes and pants, as well as infrastructure and vehicles.

    Toronto Ïce Condominiums at York Centre | 234.07m | 67s | Lanterra | a—A

Residents air their complaints on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/toronto/comments/587jo8/ever_wondered_what_it_was_like_to_live_in_a_brand/ Interesting to hear about the AirBnB guests, is this common in larger condominiums?

    Toronto Drake Hotel Expansion | 18.9m | 5s | Diamond Schmitt

It's not super common in Toronto, but it annoys me whenever I see it as it's a lazy attempt to make an otherwise dull design 'dynamic'. I've seen it on quite a few SFH builds and larger projects like University Place. That being said, there are successful applications of this style. OCAD's...

    Toronto Drake Hotel Expansion | 18.9m | 5s | Diamond Schmitt

I don't care for it. Way too messy, especially with new windows overlapping old ones. I can't wait for the randomly assorted windows trend to die already.

    Toronto 2 Carlton | 251.1m | 73s | Northam | Arcadis

Something to consider about heritage buildings is that architectural styles seem to fall out of favour for a while before people begin to appreciate them again. Currently people can't find enough bad things to say about brutalist architecture, but I imagine within a few decades any example of it...

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

Also, Glencairn was scheduled to have gates installed in the summer.

Heh, looks like the same zigzag pattern as 2 Carlton. Maybe this is a new trend for the area.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The TTC's approach to fare enforcement is oddly lackadaisical. I pretty much only see them standing at the streetcar platform in Spadina, and people have of course caught on to this and exit at Sussex instead. In Ottawa they would patrol most busy routes all day long, check every passenger and...

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

Spadina station had its old gates ripped out last year for Presto reader installation, but they stuck the same old gates back in after. The new gates had already been announced at that point, so I wonder if they did the required electrical work to support them and it's just a matter of swapping...
