    Toronto YZD | ?m | ?s | Northcrest Developments | KPMB

We *don't* need or want to cram the population of London ON or Hamilton into Downsview airport, that is a ridiculous proposition.

Or even better, rezone for medium density then flip!

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

They’re MSE (Mechanically Stabilized Earth). The thin walls are not actually structural, it’s the dirt/sand holding the weight. Reinforcement embedded in the dirt holds the dirt together. It’s the same stuff used on highway ramps, some retaining walls, and the like. It’s actually a pretty...

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

Bay currently has a paved width of ~12.5-13m. Redesign it with 7m for streetcars, 3.5-4m for cycle track. the rest can go to sidewalks and trees. Get rid of cars from Bay at least south of Queen. Where local car access is required, do a King Street-style solution and allow cars on the tracks...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Update from the suburban wasteland of York Region! Cycle tracks on Yonge north of Elgin Mills finally open. Crazy how long they took to open it, the cycle tracks were complete save for paint last year, green paint was done like a month or two ago, and white paint was finished several weeks ago...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Even currently, the speed limit is 60km/h. I can't say as to how fast cars actually drive, but I can't imagine they drive much slower than the speed limit, and 60km/h is already terrifying for cyclists. I elaborate on this more at the end of my post. Also, just for some clarification, the link...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Amazing, another piece of York Region transit infrastructure with no actual transit! Good video though.

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

How many lively, pleasant, walkable streets can you name that also happen to be 6+ lane 60km/h arterial roads with turn lanes at intersections? After you complete that exercise, how many lively, pleasant, walkable intersections can you find between 4-6+ lane 60km/h arterials with turn lanes...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Honestly building these bike lanes is just a waste of time, even if protected imo. Concrete curbs are okayish in lower speed downtown streets, but normal people are not going to feel comfortable cycling 40cm away from 60-70km/h suburban traffic, even if the bike lane is protected with concrete...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

You do realize that Scarb Jct has had grade separation plans for ages. Nothing to do with OL. https://www.metrolinxengage.com/en/engagement-initiatives/scarborough-junction-grade-separation-pic3 And I think a flyover/under or two is still cheaper than like 1.5-2km of tunnel...

    VMC Future 3D Model/Rendering

Yup, I'm aware of those plans. Quadreal has also released renders of towers covering pretty much all of the land they own (bounded by 400, 407, Jane and 7) and I think I've seen similar renders from Smartcentres for all of their land. Only problem is they're still very high level early stage...

    VMC Future 3D Model/Rendering

For sure. The only example I can think of is Tysons Corner in Virginia, though that's definitely a smaller scale than VMC or MCC. Thanks! Colours are inspired by what you used to have haha. I'm working in Fusion 360 and rendering in Blender, which is definitely not ideal for architecture stuff...

    VMC Future 3D Model/Rendering

Hi everyone, I've been working on a 3D model of VMC on and off for a couple of months now. I think I've finally got all of the active development applications, under-construction buildings, and already constructed ones now. Most of the buildings still need some extra work in terms of adding more...

    Vaughan Park Place VMC | 192m | 56s | SmartCentres | Hariri Pontarini

New docs posted on PlanIt last month. Not sure how nobody noticed but here they are! Lots and lots of renderings in this one. Architect is Hariri Pontarini, also looks like TACC and Remington are involved in addition to SmartCentres. Total GFA: 107,512.7 sqm 2 Studio, 681 1 bed, 325 2 bed, 62 3...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

I’m not a fan. Streets like Queen are functionally 2-lane roads anyways, as the curb lane is almost always blocked, and the main bottleneck for motor traffic on these sorts of streets is intersections, not the number of lanes on straight sections. Trying to keep the extra lane open is pretty...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I posted this last year in the Wayfinding thread - a bus stop I saw when I was in Chicago. First time I'd ever seen maps on a bus stop.

    TTC: Easier Access Phase III

Station Fixation has an article about this. From the article: "At Christie, the escalator was a retrofit, installed well after the construction of the station. The device’s base is located above the track ceiling below. There physically isn’t enough room for the mechanical equipment at the base...

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

I'm actually getting sick of reading and responding to these posts. Like, literally 90% of this is just a bunch of hubristic, sanctimonious, and irrational hatred and FUD. Throwing around these 'technical concerns' and calling it 'uneconomical' is not an argument. If it's technically impossible...

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

Yes, we can do all of those things, and I fully support doing all of those things. But, if we are tendering out a public transport project, and the Boring Company offers a compelling bid, why should we reject it? Because it's 'different'? Because it utilizes car technology? If it meets the...
