    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Wow, me playing devils advocate somehow managed to cause the biggest sh!tstorm on this platform in a while, so let me clear the air. 1. I did not say Tunneling was the cheapest method, I said there are advantages to tunneling that are not being considered by members in this forum. Said...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Scarborough's transit ridership (>400 K PPD) is higher than all of Peel Region's (~220 K PPD) though so this is kind of a moot point.

The I-Beams/Gurders? Yes...but that's pretty much it, and those are far more difficult to transport, especially in the confined spaces of midtown. The station itself and the columns/caissons have to be formed on-site. Worst of all, the joints still require concrete to be formed properly. As...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Perhaps better bus integration can be factored into some of these stations. R&T had issues with connections to the 9, perhaps the issues at Northfield, Waterloo Park, Victoria Park, Block Line, and Ottawa can be built in sometime soon.

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

One thing to note with tunnelling: You can work through the winter and work through the winter well. One risk with elevating the line (or even building it at the surface) is that you only have a small window of about 6-8 months every year where you can actually build the columns and do station...

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

That's a crap ton of structural work for storing trains. You're better off just procuring more land.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Completing IFCs, scheduling labour, obtaining numerous shop drawings, stamping, then reviewing said shop drawings, manufacturing all necessary parts/components, storing everything, getting permits, scheduling replacement services, reallocating resources, among so many other things is an insane...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Most likely deeper foundations along the corridor, but it could also be the fact geotechnical information has changed since then, and the material they're proposing boring through would be easier/quicker to bore through.

Then send it to Markham City Centre if Stouffville isn't enough. Warden is never going to get a rapid transit line. Back then 30-40 years ago, Line 2's ridership was closer to 300K PPD, which is a similar level to what the crosstown was expected to get 10-20 years after opening. It's still...

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

The Outer extents of the Bloor Danforth Subway, and the North York Sections of Line 1 did not have the demand to justify a subway 30 years ago, yet here we are now. With the huge boom in development throughout the city and shifts in how we move as a society, expecting transit demand to remain...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Seattle's LRT is more of an S-Bahn than any of the LRT projects in Toronto with the exception of Maybe Eglinton. There's far more grade separation.

Roads: Ambassador & Gordie Howe Bridges

During construction, photographing the bridge definitely poses a security risk. As someone who has worked on public projects of this scope, there are security features built in everywhere, even on/in the bridge.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

We have yet to see the design of the transfer at Don Mills and Eglinton, but I guarantee that if it's as poorly planned a transfer as the Kennedy transfer is, people will complain. The speculation on that transfer has already been negative.
  14. Streety McCarface

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

People don't complain about short transfers: the bus-subway transfers at most stations are super easy thanks to cut-cover sections and fare-paid bus terminals. I've never heard anyone complain about transferring to the Don Mills bus at Don Mills Station either. No one ever complains about...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

When I lived on the line, it really depended. Some trains were heavy standing room only, others were crush-loaded. What was for certain was that they were all used, and that trains, despite being TRs, had different crowding levels in each car.

And that's going to union only...and frequencies are not competitive. Not the same thing.

TTC Fleet Procurement Strategy - 2022

This is what happens when you don't exercise options in time. The TTC deserves this for delaying them for so long.
  18. Streety McCarface

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Pre-covid, trains were actually crush loaded during rush hours. It'd probably be cheaper long term for the TTC to just extend the train lengths to 6 cars (and have to worry less about running specialized rolling stock on sheppard) with today's frequencies than increase frequencies on the line in...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

, post: 1606038, member: 60658"] Compared to American systems, where 15 minutes is their rush hour frequency, we are lucky in Canada. This is because so many American systems are heavily interlined -- they're designed this way, and quite honestly, at least for cities like NYC, San Francisco...
