    Cozy Cafes

Perhaps not a "cozy" cafe in the traditional sense, but if you like flowers & sitting outside, this is the only garden cafe I know of in TO: Queen Garden Cafe

    Toronto’s Waterfront

I was looking forward to going to that museum so I do hope they re-open it!

Draper Street as a bar street would look closer to Crescent Street in Montreal than Golden Gai in Shinjuku (also good though). To get the latter, we'd need to convince a neighbourhood to convert their back laneway or get a new development to purpose build one. Or maybe we could convince some of...

Thanks. I figured there had to be a specific reason for it at least at one point.

Do we know what this pokey outley bit is for? I assume that's the amenity level, but design-wise - just because?

I feel like I should be happy as this probably counts as "missing middle", but 4 units with a parking lot doesn't seem like it's housing more people than an old house that was carved up into apartments could. Indeed, it seems like it actually has less greenery/yard.

    Cozy Cafes

rdaner just posted a "walk video" over on the Ossington street thread that reminded me the Jimmy's on that strip is fairly cozy. I don't think the fireplace works anymore, but it does have a tin ceiling & other old-fashioned bits as well as tasty food and local art.

Streetscapes from Elsewhere - Design Inspirations for Toronto

Nice! Will they add more granite if they widen the sidewalks too? Perhaps I accidentally found them a cheaper solution 😂 I do like the round illuminated planters that are already there. I hope we get more as they expand along the areas you mentioned.

Streetscapes from Elsewhere - Design Inspirations for Toronto

Thanks! To clarify, I didn't mean the corded light part as that was seasonal anyway. I chose to start with Bloor because it's pretty nice already, so just needs some small tweaks. Didn't realize the sidewalks here are granite though! 😮 Yeah, no need to change that.

Streetscapes from Elsewhere - Design Inspirations for Toronto

And not a streetscape per se, but I thought this OCAD grad's ideas for adding rest areas & bridges throughout the Don Valley was brilliant and maybe some could be adapted to within the city. I particularly like the one that looks like two lilypads tilting towards each other with a hollow in...

Streetscapes from Elsewhere - Design Inspirations for Toronto

Here's one that I think we could manage on Bloor Street (the Mink Mile) with just a bit of tweaking (narrowing the area for cars, adding interesting paving to the sidewalk, adding more trees & different types of lighting, better garbage control, etc). Screenshot of a video taken somewhere in...

Streetscapes from Elsewhere - Design Inspirations for Toronto

Not a long history perhaps, but I'm noticing many positive changes over even just 20-30 years. As one small example, I remember when the Black Bull Tavern was virtually the only patio & now we have many (even before CafeTO). I feel the powers-that-be support culture, the arts & all things not...
