Toronto Richmond Adelaide Centre: EY Tower | 188.05m | 40s | Oxford Properties | Kohn Pedersen Fox

Based on that stat sheet, this building is in dire need of a reno. It doesn't have parking or even sprinklers. (Not sure if they will be adding parking?) My aunt and uncle used to run a small business out of this building so I've been inside a few times. It's generally pretty crappy as far...

It has nothing to do with whether Toronto is ready for it and everything to do with whether a developer will spend the money for it.

    Toronto Yonge & Rich Condominiums | 156.35m | 46s | Great Gulf | a—A

I agree with others that this is a much-needed development. The core east of Yonge is still very underdeveloped and I'm surprised it's taken this long for a proposal to be tabled for this lot. There are other large lots, like one block east of Pawn Shop Alley on Queen East and Church, which is...

Er...pretty sure they were there first.

Ker-SLAM! And we have a winner. Nice shots. Those slow shutter speed shots sure do look purdy.

I doubt that most of the "supertalls" listed above will be built for the following reasons: 1. There is already a glut of demand for condos that has flattened prices. 2. There is a growing backlash against tall buildings. The Gehry proposals will be a bellweather for projects going forward...

    Toronto Aura at College Park | 271.87m | 78s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

I walk by this project every day on my way to work and I have to agree that the quality is not high here. The materials look cheap, the design is bland and unoriginal and it's too massive for its context. Overall it's disappointing, but not horrible. The upside is that it's going to inject life...

Wrong. While expensive real estate exists in both urban and rural/coastal areas, the highest concentration of expensive homes by far is in large cities. A condo in NYC sold recently for $90 million, to give one example.

I agree with what was raised above -- that Toronto needs more mid-rise residential -- but it's not necessary yet to tear down single family homes. There are many, many places right along major corridors that can be developed before we need to start razing single family homes. Look at Danforth...

Wish I knew, but my understanding of both cities is that they had much larger populations (particularly New York) far earlier than Toronto, and density was much higher as well. New York built its first subway in 1904.

This is an interesting debate, and probably the right one to be having. I want these towers built as planned because I think it's a huge opportunity for this city and we don't know when an opportunity like this will come along again. I believe they will be magnificent as finished products...

    Toronto The Florian | ?m | 25s | Mirabella Dev Corp | Hariri Pontarini

This is a comical debate. Toronto and Detroit are not similarly sized cities anymore. Not even close. The urban renewal in Detroit is equivalent to the weeds that sprouted in Fukushima two weeks after the tsunami. I spent four days there this past May, and it was like being in a science fiction...

I agree. On the one hand, I like the density it's bringing here, but it's not very nice to look at. I pass it every day and I'm trying hard to like what I see, but it looks cheap to me, and it's enormous. I guess we'll just have to wait to see what it looks like when it's done.

Yes, we do really care about all of those things you mentioned, but I don't see how this project would hurt Toronto's livability, there would be no significant heritage buildings being lost, and the urban fabric would most certainly be strengthened by this project. Greater density...

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

Agree. How small minded are we if we let this opportunity pass us by? Cities around the world would kill to have the chance to do something like this. I can't even believe that losing the Princess of Wales theatre is even an issue. First of all, it's Mirvish's theatre; he can do with it what...

Nonsense. Next you'll tell me you'd heard of Bilbao before Gehry built the museum.

“In Bilbao, Spain, they wanted to shoot me when they saw the (Guggenheim Museum design) and now they get $500 million a year in revenue to the city." - Frank Gehry This thing better get built.

This and Shangri-La are the two most badass new buildings in the city. Amazing.
