Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

This seems to be a receiver only, so no "ham". 73 de VE3HT

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Was it a one way at any point, or were parking rules relaxed by having cars park backwards on the opposite side?

...and they will be called NIMBYs.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

He's still active. He goes to the St. Lawrence Market and writes about the Toronto Police Service. I like the fact they have the two bridges. I vaguely remember any lighting system for the single bridge. Didn't it create backup problems for the rail crossing? Rather strange they didn't...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

So true. Is that the Terrace, on the right with the white roof?

That would be in line with the single lane bridge for Pottery Road over the Don.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

That "highway" to the left there looks like some standard Ontario meandering single lane highway. Could be outside of Minden.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I remember that whole area being developed, but I can't seem to remember what was really there before. I remember it feeling rather desolate.

Ya I should have checked it out in Google Earth. It's the rail line I was talking about.

More questions...is that "road" passable that loops beneath the water treatment plant? Under the "L" of "Leaside Bridge"? Or is that the rail line?

The front car in this picture was my Dad's. Similar to that Caddy, 3 of which my Dad owned during my lifetime, as well as a black Pinto. Browning Avenue should recognize this location.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

You know, I'm in no way a fan of history. Never have been. These pictures blow me away. These are just so fantastic, yet they are pictures of an old neighbourhood. Very strange indeed. Picture 1: I couldn't tell you if the bank on the south side there is still as high. It looks too...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

These shots were taken from the "lookout" at the end of Chester Hill & Thorncliffe. It's my childhood view. Just looked, nothing in my library representing this picture. I gotta fix that. Actually, this might be out along the footpath. Seems a bit close to the onramp road to DVP North...

OK, then. That clears things up.

Whoah, is that the Flyer? 1923, huh? Either things were built that well, or I should have been scared to ride that thing when I did.

That building lives on. Not to be touched by Streetcar with "The Carlaw"

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Ya the guy next door, he used to yell at us kids playing cops & robbers on his bermed lawn. Yeah I watch for traffic and drug pushers when I know there's kids playing in the street. I also push for pathways and neat things to check out, and kids riding bikes, all but safely. So as a kid...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

A neighbour of ours 2 doors away, ran Todmorden Mills for several years. Let's just say she didn't like me. But then again, what did she know? She yelled at me in that Dairy Queen. It still lives with me. The view from that seating point, I hope isn't diminished with the new construction...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

That picture is just remarkable. In the foreground, it doesn't really look like a river, but a flood plain that changes on a regular basis. That trip from the bridge to the Brickworks wouldn't be thinkable today. What it would have to pass: - 4 lanes of Bayview Extension - Railway - Don...
