TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Bombardier designed the GO Bi-Levels with GO Transit's engineers. Those rail cars are Canadian-designed products. The T-1 subway cars are designed by Bombarider and the TTC's engineers. Those subway cars are Canadian-designed products. They're not German imports. When Bombardier has a...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Bombardier isn't German. Sure, ADtranz was, but just because that company gets bought up by Bombardier doesn't mean Bombardier automatically becomes German as a result. Bombardier's bought up a number of companies... including other Canadian ones like UTDC (the original source of our...

    Do 501/504 short-turns at Sunnyside count? ;)

    Toronto Transit Trivia

Aren't the symbols located in the stairways from the surface into St.Andrew, and I believe the same applies to St.Patrick, related to their former wards? I had mistaken the dragon at St.George as similar. Funny, I'd heard St.George was named after an old ward from TTC staff :rolleyes...

    That's the one.

    Toronto Transit Trivia

St.Patrick, Downsview, St.George, St.Andrew are all area references, actually former wards except for Downsview (St.George is also a street as well as former ward). I beleive Summerhill refers to area, too, like Rosedale. Some people are throwing out larger small streets... the key term was...

    Toronto Transit Trivia

Name 3 streets that are very short and insignificant to the grid that got a subway station named after them, and have no major landmark for which justify such a station taking its name. Name another 3 streets for which the street is short but do have landmarks to justify such a station taking...

    Because "planners are idiots?" :p

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

Since the political will is there for a DRL study now, should the DRL be part of a Gardiner take-down study? Also, nobody is really getting screwed by the Gardiner takedown: It's reported it will only add 2 minutes to travel times.

    No VIVA Route Expansion?

TC is capable of going to 3.5min frequencies without necessarily losing its reliability. 5min is what they may want, but it's not a set limit, but it does have impacts on consistency of service. As for Warden to STC, the Warden route is supposed to terminate at the "new downtown" of Markham...

    Fare evasion on the TTC...

"suggested admission fee" means it's optional... it's not an honour system, it's a donation, because they're not even setting a price (it's only "a suggestion"). Those watermelons, it's actually honour system because if it suddenly becomes attended, then you'd get caught taking one without...

    Fare evasion on the TTC...

If nobody's going to stop you for not paying, then paying is optional... that's irrefutable. You can't say it's required when there are no consequences for not doing something. If it's optional, it's a donation. Every fare system, including the honour system, requires some form of...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It's guaranteed to not work on the existing system. TC will be equipped to handle such lengths, but not the existing network. The amount of rebuiding in the netowrk that would be required to accomodate such long trams would never be considered. All of Spadina, St.Clair, Queen's Quay would...

    Fare evasion on the TTC...

If there's no chance that you might face any form of punishment for not paying, then there is no fare system at all, period. It's not honour system, it's a systemless system. You pay a fare because it's required, not voluntary. POP is the honour system, because you are very seldom checked -...

    Toronto Transit Trivia

There's no war, you just wouldn't actually identify the type of tunnel, and that doesn't mean single vs. twin, so there is a need to correct you. The tunnel type I wanted from you was bored (although the tunnels here are so old that they didn't even use a TBM). Now what's the other station...

    Toronto Transit Trivia

It is cut-and-cover, but it's still two tunnels (as in, there's still a structural wall between the two... single tunnel means one giant tunnel with two tracks in it, no wall between tracks). One being cut-and-cover is correct... complete this train of thought. :)

    Fare evasion on the TTC...

POP = honour system... they're interchangeable terms. GO is considered honour system.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It's a little misleading, to put it lightly. A 504 King car will never be that long. The legacy fleet is restricted to a length of 30m because of existing stations such as Spadina, Broadview, and Dundas West.

    No VIVA Route Expansion?

North Yonge and 7 East are both getting dedicated lanes, construction is already starting or about to start. Warden Ave. is targetted for LRT by Markham's Transportation Master Plan. Whether this would be VIVA or TTC service is not known at this time. It also is not known whether such a...

    Toronto Transit Trivia

That's one of two. It's more pronounced at another station. The reason you gave is close but not quite right. It's still "two tunnels" on both sides.
