Standard vs TTC gauge; An LRT Standard in Ontario?

The trolley pole is on the way out. TTC is working on converting the existing system to pantograph.

Sorry, my bad, I wanted to refer to the extension, not the station.

Here's one for you: What caused Kennedy to be underground instead of at-grade?

    Toronto Transit Trivia

Oh I think there's more to its charm than that. I love the half underground half outdoor stations like Old Mill and Eglinton West. The transition effect is cool.

    Toronto Transit Trivia

Well, before the province started throwing its money into the pile, the first phase of the B-D was only to go from St.George to Greenwood, i.e. connect the network to the yard. Other stations that never came to be included a Prince Edward and Montgomery proposal in earlier drafts of the...

Standard vs TTC gauge; An LRT Standard in Ontario?

There was a posting on Metronauts lately that raised the question of an LRT standard for track gauge in Ontario since the TTC has the only existing network to base a standard off of. What do you think?

Boom! If you sit in the front car northbound from Wellesley, you can see the track curve eastward. Bloor is actually on an angle, not parallel to Yonge, and then does an "S" swing closer to Yonge as it reaches Rosedale. Other stations east of Yonge, only not as far east, are Rosedale...

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

Are you kidding? Bloor St. is terrible at this intersection and will benefit greatly from the redesign. It allows Bloor St. to continue as the arterial road it should be, and I think it will be great for walkability to the subway at Kipling, especially with the new east exit proposed for the...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

What's sad about our current fleet is that they're 30 years old and STILL no order has formally been placed - the contract has yet to be awarded. The streetcars we have now are actually capable of going 100km/h+... the track network, however, isn't. The TTC was originally going to service the...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I suggested the TTC use Keele instead of Jane. Keele is a lot easier to work with until Eglinton. South of Eglinton, it's gets a little more complicated, but the net amount of tunneling would still be less than Jane. The route wouldn't end up at Keele station, but Dundas West.

poor level of efficiency is right. Ideally, if subways could done very shallow, access would be by ramps. Not only are those accessible design, they're universal design. They also don't break down (even in winter, salt might actually be GOOD for them)! :D

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Escalators aren't accessible and cannot be made accessible, since they were never intended to be accessible. I've heard about some of the ideas TTC is grappling with to make the exsiting system accessible. Among the options is changing the elevation of certain lanes at certain points.

"Downtown Core Line" - Possible Alignments?

Engineers can handle it. It's an issue but it's not insurmountable. The same thing takes place at Queen's Quay.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

There's nothing sweet about it. When CN was sold off by the Crown, it was bought by a Chicago-based business led by a man named Harrison. Where CN's operations are and where its HQ is isn't the point. The same is true for Air Canada. It's owned by an American, too. Doesn't matter where it's...
