    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Thanks everyone for the replies in regards to third rail.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

From what I gather, the top speed for third rail is something like 150km/h which is likely perfectly fine for a local GO service. I'm not sure I really buy the weather aspects as a fault either, as the outdoor sections of the subway seem to be okay. Certainly overhead wires are not immune to...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Exactly. Unrelated, does anyone know why it seems that we're not considering third rail electrification? I caught an article with someone from Metrolinx saying that they'd need to bring all sorts of people in to consult on electrification as it's a relatively unknown process here. It strikes...

Roads: Missing Links in the Road Network

I don't think it's on the books, but Palacio sent around a flyer in the neighbourhood wherein he was pitching for it.

Cuspidorii? There's two of them in the first photo.

Exactly. They're basically the same spacing as Ossington and Christie on the Bloor-Danforth, which doesn't seem to be problematic.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Thanks Dan. Was there an exemption then for DMUs like the old Budd units that ran in Canada on a variety of smaller lines? It seems to me that if those could pass muster, surely just about any DMU/EMU would.

Out of curiosity, what FRA standards are in the way?

Honestly, you were so close to the "Don King Line".

TTC: Automatic Train Control and Subway Platform Screen Doors

+1 for everything. Vancouver's been alright with the SkyTrain for coming up on 30 years. No drivers, no screen doors, and no major accidents.

    Toronto St Clair Village | ?m | 3s | Frontdoor | Hunt Design

That's a shame, the Hughes building is a nice one, and adaptable to reconfiguration I would have thought. It's not a terrible name, by any measure, just a bit ambitious.

They also owned a chunk of land on the east side of the Humber. Roughly between Old Weston to Caledonia and St. Clair to Eglinton. Silverthorn Avenue bearing their name.

Any info on whether the former Hughes Public School is to be demolished or is it infill on the playing field? Also, "Homes of St. Clair", c'mon, it's Rogers and Caledonia.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

When my father was growing up in the 40's, my grandparents would periodically go for a drive along Dundas/Hwy 5 out to Paris as a Sunday drive. I knew that it would've been quite a rural route at the time, but this really illustrates that it wasn't long until you hit countryside on Dundas.

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

That hill and that light were my nemesis when I was learning to drive standard, many years ago.

It's actually kind of exciting, in a really slow moving way.

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

I agree that's likely the better option, improve certain East/West routes. North of St. Clair the Spadina line isn't far from Dufferin, so I think it would be really hard to justify the expenditure on creating a parallel RT 1/2 mile west. Especially when Jane or Keele could act as a westerly...

Heritage Victorian Home Restoration Resources (continuous list)

Bit of self promotion, but I do a fair bit of restoration work. Restoring front doors is particularly enjoyable, as most older doors can be refurbished to work as good as new. http://www.sixpenny.ca

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

The clothing appears Victorian or Edwardian at the latest. With regards to the apparent lack of TTC, the side street certainly does not have anything. However, the foreground is too short to say with any certainty that the photographer was not standing on the tracks.
