GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

Perhaps I'm not understanding your answer, but I wasn't referring to replacing the entire Bush shed with a roof similar to the one currently being built, I was referring to "updating" the Bush shed to install the glass paneling that I understand the Bush shed design originally called for back...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

That's really funny. I was thinking the exact same thing. Havelove is winning some sort of troll competition as we speak.

    Ontario's top 10 historic downtowns

Funny, I just checked it out on streetview as well after you mentioned that, and I'd say it looked a fair bit worse when I was there recently than it even does in those pictures. I usually go down every year or two for a weekend in the summer just to stroll around, and I don't remember thinking...

    Ontario's top 10 historic downtowns

Kingston has a nice downtown, but I was really surprised when I was there a month ago or so and it seemed like about one in three stores downtown were closed or for lease. Has Kingston fallen on hard times recently? I don't remember it being like that when I went to university there about 15...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

Yes, the current reno lets some light in and respects the heritage element. I was suggesting that they could let MORE light in (and continue to respect the heritage element) by adding the glass portions to the existing roof, as it was originally designed.

    Toronto from LEGOLAND

Yeah you do...my wife and I were at Vaughan Mills a few weeks ago and wanted to go in to take a look, but we weren't allowed. I suppose I understand the intent of the policy, but it's still a bummer...it all looks pretty cool.

    Sammy Yatim Shooting

As much as I'm sure he didn't mean to, freshcutgrass hit upon the real issue here: cops aren't convicted because juries don't convict them. The judicial system actually DOES work off of public opinion in a way. Police always choose jury trials, and juries refuse to convict them. Cops get charged...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

Apologies if this has been asked/answered before, but is there a reason that we cant "upgrade" the existing bush shed to install the glass roof that the design originally called for? Respect the heritage element while also allowing light in?

    The Canadian Penny ( 1858-2012 )

I'm sure they would have taken pennies (well, they might have at least), but they wanted enough pennies for you to pay the (rounded up) bill (i.e. five of them instead of the three you were trying to pay with). The problem is that their cash registers are now automatically rounding the bill...

Scramble Crossings (City of Toronto) (Yonge/Dundas, Yonge/Bloor, Bay/Bloor)

I remember reading somewhere that they did it that way at least partly because seeing eye-dogs are trained to go when they see a green light, so if you had a crossing where cars had a green light and pedestrians didn't, it could cause problems. Not totally sure if it's true or not, but I...

    Cabbagetown

Wait, so is it not going to be a Hey Lucy (as mentioned above)? I wouldn't be too unhappy, since Hey Lucy isn't my favourite restaurant, but they've done a lot of work in the interior (including installing what looks to be a wood-burning oven), so it seems a bit strange that they'd have done...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

The Dominion Bank building across the street (now 1 King West hotel) has a fair bit of maintenance coming up to its terra cotta facade as a result of deterioration; then again, it's been over 80 years since the CPR building replaced theirs, so I guess that's not too surprising. I doubt there...

    The Senate

Why do we need a Senate at all? I get the argument that it provides a voice to the provinces, but the last thing I would want is the gridlock that characterizes the US system. I think we'd be better off with just the House. Provinces get a say based on how many MPs they elect (and, frankly, how...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I see your point, but really...who cares whether the Star is ethical or not? The Star could be the left hand of Satan, and that still wouldn't make Ford a good mayor (which is the point of this thread). I guess it may matter to those people who, for some reason, are more likely to vote for...

    Cabbagetown

I'm worried about this as well. That's prime real estate just sitting there. On an unrelated note, does anybody know what's going into the old Margarita's location (the Mexican restaurant) on the south side of Carlton just west of Parliament? I peeked in the window at the renovations and it...

Trinity Bellwoods Park to face alcohol crackdown

Why? (and please don't say that it's because it's "against the law"...I'd like to know why you think that drinking in parks is inherently a bad thing)

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Carlton is last? Damn it! That's my line! Clearly moving from Spadina and Richmond was a bad idea.

House Value: Parking Space or Private Yard?

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Our entire back yard is bricks and could theoretically be used as a parking spot if we needed it, but we currently use it as a patio and it looks fine. Some potted plants or other greenery and a patio set can make a brick patio look great; you definitely...

    The Return of Cold Fusion?

The article is both hopeful and troubling. If this is true, why all the secrecy? Obviously we all want a power source that isn't dead-dinosaur based. Is this it? If it is, why the secrecy? It seems that whatever he puts in the steel cylinder does the magic, but assuming it can be patented (and I...
